getting tired of stock rom

I was rooted downloaded a tool kit from play store adjusted the levels. No problem downloaded a font pack then my phone didnt get past the samsung logo pulled batt, went to download mode running stock rom still have a flash count though. So I have to root again.

Questions
1. What is a good rom I know cm10 is good any others
2. How do I flash a rom
3. Can I keep my home screen layout.
4. How do I know what to look for when downloading (att galaxy s3)
5. Themes
6. Can I use google wallet isis quit on me

1. LiquidSmooth, ParanoidAndroid, AOKP, CarbonROM, etc. (Plus a lot of awesome Touchwiz roms)
2. Install either clockworkmod recovery or team win recovery project through Odin.
3. Titanium Backup (5$) Carbon backup will allow you to save app data, but it won't help saving the launcher if using stock launcher since AOSP roms do not have it.)
4. The word in the Root/ROM community for the s3 is d2, so yours would be d2att for instance. Look on xda or rootzwiki for ROMs and support info.
5. All AOSP roms have theme chooser built it, you are free to download them from the play store, xda, etc.
6. Yes, google wallet is better than isis anyway.

Yes, I am a ***** with roms. And this dang 4g LTE dont help my batt life. At 54% and gotta make it last

Might use odin since I cant download roms over 4g I have tried.

Dude do the research and put an AOSP rom on it, it makes it iphone smooth and gets rid of all the ugly *** interface that comes on the phone.

I am use to jail breaking iphone. Never instilled a rom on my s3. So I am going to be looking at roms so d2att file is needed so say cm10.d2att file

Question when I download a rom say dragons jelly bean it says I have to wipe my phone not sure if its d2att file. How would i check any damage in downloading it with my phone and transferring to my pc then use odin to finish up then how would I go about backing up contacts/apps/photos. Music is stored on sd card

You need CWM or TWRP to flash ROMs. You get this on your phone by flashing these in .tar format in the PDA slot of odin.
Roms are in .zip files and you should always make sure its for d2att where you download it form (rootzwiki or xda)
You have to boot to recovery, Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik cache
Then you flash the rom and googleapps .zip called (gapps)

Go research the rest, cuz I am not telling you how to do everything. If you don't read, you won't be able to help yourself.

ROMing is easier than jailbreaking, you just have to know what to do and not screw up.

One last thing, Odin can nearly fix anything and revert you to stock. Just don't flash International roms (stick to d2att) as it will re-partition your phone and brick it.

You can copy your files to a computer, just drag and drop.
Also you can move it to external sd card (flashing roms only wipes all of the internal memory).

Ok I will root later on so when I download the rom to the phone I loose all my data correct. May not download the rom tonight. . So why do I have to do a factory wipe when putting a new rom on any downside not doing that?

after researching, i have done it waiting on the phone to get done, i flashed carbon JB. i used the clock work mod app with the recovery for my model/carrier.

its easier then jailbreaking just not simple couldnt find out what to use odin or the phone its self, or am i missing a piece of the puzzle everybody says its easy? because i had every app, tweak and theme to choose from just by hitting download on my phone cydia.

thank you this is my first android phone so i am a newbie, wont be the last until apple can make it like android, (mostly the home screen options and widgets

i have choose not to wipe the phone, did i mess up phone is loading info i think it got done with the instill then it said samsung and went away quick then hit power and carbondev pops up with a loading deal. i will give it till 2am

still not done i think i will deal with it tomorrow

hard to read but its a loading screen that says carbondev well what is it loading it should take no 1hr to complete a reboot i backed up my old rom just incase and used cwm on the phone to flash it

if no change i am doing to flash stock and start over then hope i dont have to please somebody smarter then me help out

you have to do a full wipe, factory, cache and dalvik cache before flashing any ROM or you will run into problems. You also need to make sure you are flashing a ROM made for the phone. It it's ATT then it has to be an ATT ROM.

I suggest you read and reread everything before doing anything.

Whatever rom you flash, if you're using AT&T, it MUST start with "d2att". Read about roms in XDA-DEV, or Cyanogenmod forums, and if you're not sure which one to choose, pick one from cyanogenmod downloads that says "stable". It's a good way to start. Good luck.

Use Titanium Backup Free.

The problems you ran into trying to flash is why I gave you some direction but told you to read Good luck bro, and don't give up, AOSP on this phone is so great.

Thank you for the advice I had to give up for now dont have my computer with me will look at rom info tonight then try again later on. I am trying to look for a stock like launcher but better features

The only thing I hate is loss of service when I had carbon on it showed me I had 3g when I had 4g before (havent tried LTE dont live in that area) any rom I flash will the play store be there(I have to ask)

Most rooted roms show 3G or H+ instead of 4G which is LTE. AT&T likes to call the HSPA network 4G and the LTE network 4GLte on the stock roms

Flash a custom Touchwiz rom then, or just go download a launcher.

I have no issues running 4.2.2 Aosp on my phone, but running ROMs is not for everyone.

So stock rom is correct I do have 4g in my home town confirmed with att . Which acts like 3g most of the time.

Is cm10 pretty good looks pretty cool. I might flash it tonight already downloaded root manager (free or do I need the pro) the back up app.need to flash my root software and go from there

I know to stay away from things that dont say d2att. What about roms are there any bad ones

Would like to know where to get the google wallet (its better then isis i know google play wont let me download it my phone carrier doesnt support it.) and play store app (just incase my custom rom doesnt have it)
