Ghost Armor Carbon Fiber and Screen Protector Review

For those that have the screen protector on, how long did you wait before putting it in your pocket?

Also, is anyone using their Nexus with Ghost Armor in a case? Just wondering with the screen protector going all the way to the edge of the screen if my Verizon gel case will interfere with it? I hope not.

I would wait a full 48 hours of curing and moisture dissipation before putting it in your pocket. The suggested timeframe is 20+ hours, but I waited a full two days.

The VZW silicone case is NOT friendly to this protector. Not only does the front bezel framing of the case not extended over enough to properly cover the edging of the protector, it's tight and rigid enough to push against the edge of the Ghost Armor upon installation, that it forces up at some of the edges and pinches other areas.

On my wife's GNex, I was forced to switch out her VZW silicone case to my Seidio Surface case. The Seidio case works perfectly and covers the protector with no evidence of it's presence when installed in the case.

Hi guys. Do you know if this works ok with the Commuter, ie no peeling?

I use a Otterbox Commuter case on mine and just installed my Ghost Armor under 24 hours ago. I will try to see if it tolerates the Commuter tomorrow night or on Thurday. I'm crossing my fingers, otherwise I will return to Seidio. The Commuter and the Seidio Active holster is my favorite combination of the different cases/holsters that I possess.

I will let you know and post some images up this weekend in a separate thread.

I had mine put on yesterday around 3pm and now 28 hrs later, there are still bad vertical lines in it, as well as the "sparkly-ness" all over the screen. I REALLY hope this all clears up.

You will see dramatic improvement in 24 hours and it will reach peak optical clarity in 48-72 hours. The light hazing, clusters of micro air bubbles, and most other deformities will clear up in 48 hours. It will look great. Larger air bubbles, fingerprints in the adhesive side (due to non-wetting of fingers), and dust/lint particles will NOT go away. If that's the case, I suggest you file a warranty claim. Although, Ghost Armor does give you TWO protectors for every order, so you should have another backup if you screwed up the first.

Thanks for the info. I hate that the Verizon case won't work as I really like it.

You talk of the Seidio Commuter...do you mean the Otterbox Commuter? Does the Commuter add much bulk? I'm trying to get something as slim/small as the Verizon gel case... Since you have both, how do they compare size-wise?

Does anyone know if the Diztronic TPU case works with the Ghost Armor ? Or the Case Mate Pop?

I don't have references with the Diztronic or the Case Mate cases, so I cannot help you with their respective Ghost Armor compatibility. My wife also liked the VZW case a lot too.

However, the Otterbox Commuter (which I corrected in my previous post, thanks!) does not add a whole lot of more bulk than the VZW Silicone Gel case. See my review below...

GNex + Seidio Surface Holster + Otterbox Commuter + VZW Silicone

That will give you an idea of how the size of the Commuter compares against the VZW Silicone case. I can caliper out dimension comparisons between the two if it will help you. I will include those dimensions on my thread linked above.

Hope that helps.

Yeah I just found your review and am reading it now. Is the Commuter hard plastic? Or basically is it slick to hold onto? I'm trying to find a case that will have some grip to it, but don't really like the Seidio Surface all that much...

And how do the buttons work on the Commuter case? On my Verizon gel case, I had dremel'd the button covers out since they didn't work that well.

Thanks for the info.

The Otterbox Commuter is a hard plastic exoshell over a soft silicone inner liner. The two mate very well. In the had, it's not as grippy as the VZW silicone Gel case, as it IS hard plastic. However, it's shape feels good in the palm and I have not had any issues with it feeling unstable in my hand.

The button covers on the Commuter case works much better than that of the VZW case. It works very well and is very prominent in it's function.

Thanks a lot for the all the info.

Let me know how the Commuter works with the Ghost Armor. If it works fine, then I'll be ordering a Commuter.

Got mine yesterday. I love it.

Since you didn't go with the carbon fiber color how do the sides look? Any gaps where the carbon color shows?

How do I know if the install was done properly? I guess wait 2 days, and then I'll know huh?

I put mine on Sunday mid day, and it is Wed now. I don't see the "vertical lines" going away. Looks to me a lot like the orange peel effect.

I had the same problem with my G-nex. I was only successful with my Ipad. I have the Zagg on my Gnex now and, while it was put on very well, it bothers me a little when viewing a white background. It's just not as clear.

One thing about the Ghost Armor, if you can get it on correctly; it does look pretty good. You have to have patience though. It took my Ipad quite awhile to clear up (longer than 48 hrs.) but it looks a lot better now.

I may give it another shot on my Gnex. I'll try to take my time and do it correctly.

Yeah I'm at 48hrs after install and the lines are there big time, as well as the screen being sparkly. So far I am VERY UNHAPPY with Ghost Armor, but I'll give it until tomorrow...then it goes back to the kiosk and they'll either re-install a new one, or give me a refund.

I hope it was just a bad install and a new one will work properly. I definitely like how the screen doesn't attract fingerprints etc.

For those that have Ghost Armor, is the screen crystal clear? How about when you go to a screen with a white background? Is it still clear? Just trying to get an idea of how it's supposed to look when done right.

THx

Pretty much. There's a very slight crystalline sort of effect (don't know how else to describe it), but that may only be because I know the screen protector is there. It's not nearly as noticeable as it is with the ZAGG protector, which I hate. I think that if a lot of people were to look at my phone without being told there's a screen protector, then they wouldn't notice.

I do think I got a really good install at the kiosk, though.

I'm happy to say that the Otterbox Commuter plays nicely with the Ghost Armor screen protector. I re-installed the Commuter this morning, after a 2.5 day cure period, and there was no inappropriate pushing, peeling, or crimping to the Ghost Armor from the case's silicone bezel framing.

In addition, the Seidio Surface case also works very well with the GA, and likely most other brands of protectors as the case is separated by front and rear halves, causing no stress points to protector when installing.

Rest assured, you should be quite pleased with your Commuter. I also tested the fit and function of the case using the Sammy extended battery with AND without it's mating battery cover. Both passed fine. In the end, I prefer to use the case without the battery door.

Again, I'll try to find time to post some pics this weekend.

UPDATE: After a morning of use, the Commuter may not be playing nicely as originally assessed. The case started to push up on the lower part of my GA. Apparently, each time I put it into the holster, the pressure applied to the bottom of the case as it is put into the holster causes the silicone liner to compress and subsequently rise up along the front face of the phone. As it result, it catches the bottom edge of the protector and starts to pinch it upward and out. I had to remove the case and re-assess later today. When testing last night, the setup was fine and was taken in and out of the holster quite a few times without issue. The only difference between the days was that I removed the battery door cover after use last night and have been using it all morning without it. I don't know if the relaxed fit causes more play in the case when compressed, but it's a viable theory.

I plan on returning home after work, reinstalling the battery door, reinstalling Commuter, and see how it goes through the night. Perhaps if I can remove the amount of flex in the case, it will prevent the problem from re-occuring.

If not, back to Seidio I go...and I'll be seeing if anyone is interested in buying a slightly used Commuter and holster. :)

I would love to see pics of the computer with the battery back on the phone.

would like to add that i just had carbon fiber black and screen protector installed on my gnex.. I was hesitant cause i didnt know if it was going to fit the VZW car dock or not but it does. It def did make the dock hug the phone tighter so it is harder to get it in and out of the dock. But nonetheless it still fits fine
