Updated Fix: DO NOT FREEZE/RENAME/DELETE THE YAHOO ENTRIES!!!!

View/Call Contact and immediately return to homescreen myth busted!

I guess I've been too fortunate up untill this point....

I recently dropped the rooted GB onto my X. Everything went pretty much smooth untill just now. I am experiencing a strange contact issue. On about 90% of my contacts, I can choose them from my previous fav menu in dialer or within the contact list. I can longpress their entry and the menu appears, but if I try to view, edit, call, text etc, the window slams shut and I get returned to the homescreen.

I've already been through and cleaned out the VZW backup assistant and that didn't seem to help any. Also, when the VZW backup syncs, it's only pulling about 10 of my contacts....there are several hundred on the phone (not including FB contacts). I am however able to use the dialer to dial whatever number I wish and it proceeds to connect the call as normal.

I've also resorted back to a previous rooted Froyo rom and dialer works fine. I am now back running GB rooted. Data/cache have been nuked. Still having dialer issues.

Any help would be appreciated to help return my Droid X smart back into a Droid X Smartphone. :)

Threw in the towel. Tried everything I could think of. Several wipes, factory resets etc.... Still had issues with contacts being valid. Their names would show in the phone but if you tried to call, edit, etc, it would close the window and return you to home screen.

Gave up, sbf'd, and returned to a previous Froyo backup.

Hey man, I don't think it's a gingerbread issue. I'm stock on the latest Froyo build and I have the same issue with a few of my contacts. I have SwitchPro widget with airplane mode as one of my toggles and when the ghost contact problem happens, the airplane mode icon on Switchpro will trigger for a brief second. It does not trigger on the status bar however. It's weird and a bit concerning since a couple of the contacts that this is happening with are also some of my ICE contacts...

Now, on your contact issue, will the phone return to homescreen if you try to dial or access that particular contact's info?

Updated note on the contact issue I was having.
Just recently started from scratch and flashed GBroot. Skipped the google sync portion of the setup process. Waited untill I got to the homescreen to sync with Google account. All went well.

After wiping and reloading a few times in hopes of recreating the issue, I found that it was my own dumb fault. Was going through removing bloatware and removed two Yahoo entries.

I have mentioned this in other threads, but check your My Verizon contacts list and DELETE all of it. Your contacts will still be in Gmail Contacts. All the Vz contacts list does is conflict with the Gmail contacts, adding old and innacurate info. My Vz doesn't sync well (at least it hasn't so far) with Gmail and changes you make only make for MORE contact info in Vz's list ... that connects with your Gmail contacts in weird ways.

I forgot to add that I do not use the MyVerizon/Backup service. Normally just skip it during setup and never touch it afterwards. Gmail is my primary.

Glad I'm finally able to enjoy GB. :)

It would return immediately to the homescreen if I tried to place a call using that contact's number from the dialer. I actually figured out that by unlinking the contact, the call could then be placed. (I had her phonebook, google, and facebook info linked within My Contacts)

I believe the problem had something to do with what Arelunde mentioned.
