"Ghost" Soft Buttons?

I recently left my phone in the car and it got pretty hot and I've noticed that now whenever my phone goes full screen or changes orientation, there is a lighter strip where the soft buttons are by default, alongside a pale triangle, circle and square.
Is it likely that the heat has messed up the display? I am uncertain as the nav bar is the only thing "ghosting". Or is it more likely that my phone has just started to kick the bucket?

Whatever the cause, it sounds like screen burn, more likely to occur on OLED displays.

Like belodian said, screen burn. Can't think about what else it could possibly be. Phones aren't meant to be exposed to high heat for prolonged periods of time.

There are apps which claim to remove the effects of screen burn. How successful they are I don't know, but you may care to investigate.
