I'm on 4.2.2 which is the latest version & significantly newer than Gingerbread.

GB went up to 2.3.7 I believe for certain devices (possibly the Nexus S back then) if memory serves me.

Will there be new GB? No, they've moved on to:
-Honeycomb (3.x)
-Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0)
-Jelly Bean (4.1+)

It was 2.3.7, but they reverted to 2.3.6 in a recent upgrade due to security issues.

GB 2.4 is called ICS 4.0
