Gingerbread coming to the HTC Evo Soon? Sprint's site says so...or it's a typo...

I just got off the phone with Sprint (tech support in India) and the local Sprint store (corporate, not franchised) and neither of them could tell me anything about 2.3. Which reps are you calling?

I recently called the sprint store here in Iowa City and they said that it'll be an over the air update but the rep didn't know when it was being released. A post on the sprint forums said that you could go into the store to have it updated but the guy here seemed to deny that. My evo still says no update.

The CSR at sprint i'm on the phone with claims the update is coming from HTC and not sprint.

*sigh*
I called the 800 number : 1-888-211-4727

Just commented on Jerry's article about this with transcript from chat with Sprint rep. They told me
I apologize; we do not have any update regarding 2.3 upgrade for the EVO phone. If we offer it in the future, you will find all the details online.

Well, I tried to start a thread in the XDA Development section about this and got flamed six ways from Sunday and then had the thread deleted. Jeez! Those guys are all business!

well it has nothing to do with development....that might be why you got flamed lol trust me....ive seen people get scolded by the flames of hell for posting in the wrong sections on that site lol

hopefully we get it soon!!! and i sure as hell hope its with an updated version of sense....i dont care if its not 3.0....sense 2.x will be fine!!!!

Question. I'm rooted, stock rom. All I have done is "Frozen" the bloat ware.

So, should I unfreeze everything before I call Sprint and beg for the update?? I know the update will break my root, but that's ok.

Rooted users should never take an OTA. You should flash back to stock.

Yeah, it wasn't the devs. One Dev, Misfit, commented and was just about the only nice person on the thread. Oh well, I guess I leanrned something new. Don't post anything but ROM releases in the development forum on XDA!

Did a manual check here in San Diego about 30 minutes ago (11am local) and nothing yet.

WOW

I called HTC cs, I asked if the Update will be pushed thru HTC or the carrier, his answer.....It will be pushed thru AT&T. Yeah exactly, AT&T. After I laughed, and then corrected him, he spoke to his "mgr" and said its still in the testing stages. I asked him to check the Sprint site, he did and said they shouldn't even have that info up on their site. So what gives????

Someone on the Sprint forum said a Sprint rep told them it should have been the Evo 3D ad that said "shipping with 2.3" and not the Evo ad.

Seems to me that there is a lot of confusion and variety from Sprint, HTC, and store help atm. Doesn't sound too organized, which leads me to believe it may have been an error on Sprint's website and that the release is not coming soon (as in this week).

If it's a mistake, they need to start fixing the website and putting out a statement to that fact. The story is making its way around all of the tech blogs very fast.

they took my advice lol

Hi all,

Was browsing Sprint's site this morning and saw that the Evo is advertised as "Now with Android 2.3" I hope this means it is coming soon, and not just a typo. It wasn't there the other day, so, maybe it will be here sooner than later! :)

I have a screen shot, but can't upload it to any sites at the moment if anyone wants to host it (just PM me an email). Work restricts these kinds of sites!

Just checked on the Sprint Website and it's back to saying 4G speeds. No more mention of Android 2.3 :(

I'm a member of another forum, and one of the guys works for sprint, and said the New phones will have the update but the older phones could have the update by the end of the month. Let's hope this is true.

Well I had to run to the Bank, so I stopped by Sprint(Brick NJ) in the process. Of course, the store know-it-all, says I dont know what I'm talking about, when I asked about the 2.3 update. I simply asked "Being that 2.3 is now available on the New Evos', can you flash here in the store or do I have to wait for the OTA?" Ballon Boy replies, "Epic 3D is the only phone with that", real slick like. Then I proceeded to show him on his computer, the Sprint site. Then I get complete silence. Thanks to Android Central and the forums, most of us are wwaayy ahead of the store reps.

Most of us are always ahead of the store reps. They probably hired another clueless college graduated idiot. There's a lot of that going around these days.

This clown couldn't even answer your question with the right carrier info for the phone, and then goes on to comment that Sprint shouldn't have that info on their site? Another clueless support tech.... SIGH...

I don't believe Gingerbread will push out OTA to our OG EVO's before the EVO 3D is available for purchase. I'd love to be proven wrong on that.
