Mine is running like a champ. Though I can't say I have see any significant battery life changes like other users have.

Hummm. Got to see whats up with this. Yea battery life is better even when both screens are open. But my echo does get stuck about 3 times a day. I dont have any crazy apps at all so now im wondering if im not alone in this matter.

Thanks

@Castorshells
bro, what happened after u receive the Error code 8507? do you still have gingerbread installed? or do you bring the echo to sprint's store & let them fix it for you?

Why you ask? Once I got the error the phone was just frozen at the kyocera screen when starting up. They couldn't fix it the first time so I got a brand new replacement echo.

Well if someone here has got /su or /rt on the 2.3.4 platform, there are lots of us that want to see the system image. If there is any chance of patching via USB etc, that would be ideal. Tell the guys on some other forums to consider the Echo as a dry run for hacking other devices if/when they FINALLY catch up with Gingerbead updates.

We probably have just about the only phones that could survive the exploit launched at Defcon this summer.

Hi all,

I just got my echo for a week. It is unlocked and registered with EVDO operator here in Indonesia.
It is rooted by z4root.

I wonder if I upgrade to Gingerbread will it be locked to Sprint.

Since I am new to android phone (my first android), anything to consider before upgrade the OS?

I installed the 2.3 update on my Rooted Echo everything installed fine and I still have root access. Here is what I did I hard reset my Echo so it was clean then verified that I had root access. Then I installed the OTA update once complete I checked and sure enough Super user was still there. I hard reset again checked and supper user was there so I installed WIFI Tether and I am posting this using the data from my Echo.

Hello. I just ordered the Echo and it will be my first smartphone, so I don't really know anything about Android. I wanted to just root it from the beginning just in case I ever need root access. The phone backup thing seems very useful and something I'd like to do.

If you had the time at some point, could you write a little bit more of a step-by-step tutorial on how you accomplished upgrading to 2.3 without unrooting? for example, dumb things like "hard reset" would require an explanation for me, such as "hold this button down for 10 seconds" or "click on this menu option". Also, I wouldn't know how to "verify that I had root access" or check to see whether Super user is still there.

Also, if anyone else has reproduced this successful upgrade while still rooted, it would be cool to hear your experiences, and if you had to do more or less steps than Big D5.

Thanks!

Mine was rooted, with some apps frozen with Bloat Freezer. i downloaded the update manually (menu>settings>System Update>Update Android) and when i installed, it bricked my phone. after picking it back up from the sprint store, i was unrooted, and nothing frozen. update worked fine, but now z4root doesnt work. i've also tried using gingerbreak with no success.

All are awaiting the root for Gingerbread... none of the options work so far.

I think froyo is much stable. Is there a way I can go back? Ginger has to many problems I dont like. So many stop.processes, freezes, its so slow when I have a live wall paper and more.

Is there a way to go back?

If you could convince a Sprint technician to reprogram with the older software, then maybe. But I don't think Gingerbread is slower or less stable, on the contrary both Camera and Gallery are much improved. Maps live wallpaper isn't as crashy. Browser's a bit better. Keyboards are MUCH better. I've gone more than fifteen days without a reboot, and the Wifi firmware stopped freezing.

Alright, so I got my Echo a week ago and recently wanted to root it; however the guy at teh store has updated it then and I didnt even think about there being a problem with 2.3 and rooting, so I just let him do it. (My plan was to spend a week with the phone to decide if I wanted to keep it, and I wasn't going to mess around with rooting it until I knew if I wanted it.)

So last night I spent an hour on tech support trying to find a way that I could downgrade, without success. The guy told me that they might be a way to do it, but without having the phone they werent going to tell me what that was because there is a chance of bricking it (dunno if thats true, dont care, it's them covering their ass, so whatever). Went to the sprint store today and their tech guys spent two hours trying to downgrade my phone. They eventually told me that they computers simply will not do it. They still have 2.2 that they can put onto it, but (again, dont know if this is true, probably just them covering theirselves) they told me that it has something to do with Kyocera's own version of gingerbread that was preventing them from downgrading it.

The only advice that they cuold give me was to call Kyocera (Sanyo) and ask them directly.

Now I had tried to exchange my current Echo for a brand new, out of the box, one, figuring that it would still have 2.2 on it, but apparently at that store they update all the phones they have there as soon as they get word that there's an update for them. (bastards...)

But, ya, felt like sharing this info with yall.

Nice to know Tev. I know there's a system image in the Echo SDK that maybe 2.2 and flashable in fastboot. I would try to flash it in fastboot but I'm no longer close by any Sprint store.

Kyocera Echo Root and custom recovery

Not sure if you guys know but saridnour over at heartheecho.webs.com Home - Hear the Echo - Kyocera Echo Forums[/url] has been hard at work, they have 1click root, custom recovery and tons of dev,ing going on ive personally flashed over 20 roms to my echo though most dont work correctly since i havnt begun to port.. CM7 porting is hard at work though

saridnours recovery saved my phone from the update-brick problem, also installs gingerbread if you dont have it anyways seemed like noone in this thread had mentioned any of this so i thought i would:D
