Gingerbread installed today!

If I am living in US, I already drove to any sprint's store near me..if i sent the phone to sprint's, is it possible that they will replace it with new one / repair it? no worries for the shipment fee, it's all on me..

Any sprint's reps here??

They should. When I went they tried to flash it back to stock but that wouldn't work. They told me they would order me a new one but then found out that was out of stock for order. I ended up getting a new one in store. It cost me 35 bucks and that would have bee the same if it was sent to me too.

Really, since the bricking started from the update, they should give you a new one for free and no questions asked. Make sure they know if you got that error it was from the update and you want a free phone.

Motorola Xoom 3g: Unlocked, Rooted, and on Tiamat 2.1.0 Tachi.

Kyocera Echo: Rooted and waiting for Gingerbread.

This is a pain, I've tried pretty much every root method and they've all been a no go. Rageagainstthecage, which z4 and gingerbreak use doesn't work cause 2.3.4 patched it:mad:, I've also tried psneuter, superoneclick, and universalandroot, which I knew wouldn't work. SO, I have no idea how to root it. Anyone have any ideas?

The cheaper alternative is to sign up for the $8/month insurance plan - it's open enrollment right now and if you complain enough they'll waive it for the month. That way they don't charge the $35 shipping.

I ended up signing up for that insurance for my second echo. Just in case it happened again. I still haven't done update and am really tempted to try it while still rooted. I doubt it would work but I love root!

Xoom+Root = Perfect Match
Xoom+Echo = Another Perfect Match

Since I'm not living in US, i guess the $8/month insurance will useless..I dont mind with the shipment fee, I'll pay for it, but I really need to know that someone on sprint would help me to repair my phone..

...and I'm back. Update rolled just fine. I see that some system icons are now blue, and there is a soft glow feedback when scrolling. Nice!

Pinch-zoom applications work as described, and generally seem faster and more featured. Especially the gallery is much faster and smoother than before.

Initial sentiments on gaming are positive; can't say the impact is huge but somehow just fewer hiccups.

THE CAMERA IS BETTER NOW. Seems most problems were in the software side, it is still not amazing but definitely better than before. Gallery speed improvements very noticeable switching over from camera. (no long "searching" delay)

I did not lose any programs or data, and the keyboards are fine (improved greatly). Mysteriously the signal strength and network speed seem better. It may have corrected a low-signal issue I pin to the firmware update that preceded this Android upgrade.

Phone does not get as hot when running Opera Mobile, tTorrent, Pocket Legends or other software that stresses the whole system. This reduction in heat output should correlate to a significant battery improvement. That will take time to establish.

"Downloads" application is semi-useful. Definitely great for casual users but not as important if you have ASTRO or equivalent. "Eco" app is great on principle, will be watching to see if it behaves reliably. Still no (robust) onboard video app but I will test to see if any marketplace software decoders have smoother audio now.

This is overall a great quality improvement for the Echo user experience, even without new Simultask applications. The phone isn't really DIFFERENT after updating, just BETTER.

PS: My strange Jpeg 16-bit downsample issue is gone. Images with JFIF encoding are properly rendered in a 24-bit context again. (Banded gradients fixed)

Well I finally went through with update. I unrooted, downloaded update, installed half and got same 8507 error. Went to sprint store and they were able to fix it. I got it back and went ahead and just did factory reset. Did update again and all is great now, got some gingerbread on the echo.

I think the update didn't work because I still had apps frozen even after unrooting. Glad to finally be on 2.3. I can definatly see a difference in the responsiveness of the phone, so much smoother and faster.

Just updated it, now hangs at Kyocera start screen. Phone is not rooted and has been factory data reset before updating, battery at 100%. Not funny Sprint. Anyone know how to fix this, please?

Anyone with a "revived" Echo have success or failure with the re-released update?? In other words, if Sprint's repair stores were able to unbrick your Echo, has anyone been able to successfully update their Echo.

Mine was unbricked with my settings and apps intact and NOT a factory restore or flash. I've read that some had success with the re-released update, but a few have had it (re?)brick their phones. I want to update, yet I'm afraid of going through the fiasco that occurred after the intial rolling out of the update. There hasn't been enough or as much confirmation as I'd have expected. Is there anyone at Sprint that can confirm??

I did the update after they unbricked mine and it worked fine. I did do a factory reset first though. I was too scared to try to do it without doingvthe reset. I say better to be safe and just do a factory reset.

Got a replacement after my Launch Day echo was Gingerbricked.

On vacation (roaming from Sprint). Went to a coffee shop to get wifi for the upgrade.

Download took 20-30 minutes (seemed like too long).
Told it OK (instead of Later) .

Never got the updating Android graphic.

I am REALLY worried about this since I had 4 or 5 rounds like this b4 I got Gingerbricked the 1st time.

Should I expect a long delay from accepting the download to the updating graphic?

Is there anything I should do after the dud upgrade?
(Factory data reset is pretty harsh)

My Echo has been flaky since the upgrade. I've had it lock up three or four times. It complained about being out of memory, so I moved some of the larger apps to the SD card. Then it complained that the SD card was corrupt and needed to be reformatted. A reboot fixed that. The proximity sensor for blanking the screen during phone calls seems to be intermittently broken by this release. The only good thing so far is that the battery life is MUCH better.

I just updated to gingerbread today and have had no problems, gingerbread is amazing, my echo is so much more responsive and the txt scroller and pinch to zoom while retaining the button zoom is also dope the keyboard is way better its just amazing all the way around I can't even imagine going back to weak froyo

Does anyone know if you can do wifi calling now and what is NFC

The battery life was pretty good before the update and my wifi and account sync is always on especially compared to my dads thunderbolt but after the gingerbread update its almost twice as good as it was before
