Gingerbread installed today!

Dear all of you that received OTA Gingerbread,
please confirmed that ur echo is rooted or not? if it's not rooted, is Z4root still works on it?

Please advise..thanks ;)

My echo is unrooted and gingerbread works amazing I can't imagine going back to froyo

After getting replacement on Monday I still can't update to Gingerbread manually. I called and was told "The software cannot be updated manually without the notification sent by the Google Over the Air (GOTA) " so I went to the store and the manager told me he can manually update it but it will take an hour or two and there are issue with the wireless so was advised to wait for the patch. I don't know who or what to believe..

I know this is the second time the update has been released. It was pulled the first time for bricking phones and was re-released a few days ago. They say it was fixed and I was able to do the update no prob but only after I did a factory reset.

Xoom+Root = Perfect Match

NFC was a mistake in the first press release.

Internet call options are in "Call Settings", WIFI-only. The device also comes pre-loaded with Google Voice, and can integrate Googe Voice with your Sprint phone number. This allows you to use your Sprint number while in another country without cellular roaming charges. ;)

I did it 2 days ago when it was released again on my rooted echo and it bricked it. Waiting for my new device sprint is sending me tomm to try again :)

U didn't un-rooted it first than conduct the upgrade process, do you?

So, apparently the Sprint store I was going to is not an actual Sprint store, according to Sprint the store is 'Sprint Store by Wireless Lifestyle'. However, going there you would never know it, it looks like every other Sprint store. I don't know if this fact has any correlation to the poor technical support I've gotten from them or not.
At any rate, I went to another Sprint store that is NOT by Wireless Lifestyle to have them checkout my phone. Since they had to troubleshoot my phone from the start it took them a couple of hours to figure out what I already knew, they would have to replace the phone to get the upgrade to Gingerbread. That was yesterday and the new phone should be in today, they didn't even charge. So far the support from this store has been much better.
What I still don't get is that they too seemed unaware of a Gingerbread update for the Echo and they claim they had never heard of the 8507 error. Is this just because so few people bought the echo? Or care about the updates? The first guy at the store to help me out said he couldn't even remember that last time he saw an Echo. It makes me sad.

Ok I got my new echo, it came overnight and did the upgrade and everything went great! It upgraded to gingerbread very fast using my home wireless connection.

I guess the error/brick was due to the fact of the phone was rooted and more.

No i.didnt un -root it the other day. I knew the risk, but I also needed a new screen :) not that I did it because that but I really wanted gingerbread.

Note though: its not as great as they say it is, well for this phone cuz my phone now gets frozen and I have notice hesitations in the phone. Battery life looks better, but before I updated it I was not having any problems at all.

I'm ordering this phone monday(still trying to decide between this or the nexus s)
i wonder will 2.3 be already installed?

I dont think it has 2.3 on them at all since sprint send me the replacement this week. But the new device should update without any problems. Get echo friend has the nexus. Also if you want the phone for free try wirefly.com the device will still be covered like you purchased direct from sprint.

The other day when I went to sprint store they had it there for $100

The price is now $0... if you have paid more, you can try getting a price match if within 30 day period (with a $50 mail in rebate card).

I installed the 2.3 update on my Rooted Echo everything installed fine and I still have root access. Here is what I did I hard reset my Echo so it was clean then verified that I had root access. Then I installed the OTA update once complete I checked and sure enough Super user was still there. I hard reset again checked and supper user was there so I installed WIFI Tether and I am posting this using the data from my Echo.

If that's true then you want to get us a system dump from it, would help the rest of us get root

Here are a couple of screen shots for you one is superuser the other is the about screen.

Is anyones phone slower and more hickups with ginger? Because my phone freezes and is slower than defore with froyo.

Mine is running like a champ. Though I can't say I have see any significant battery life changes like other users have.
