Ok, the tease is out and just like Froyo, everybody wants it. But exactly what is Gingerbread? What does it offer? I've looked quite a bit but can't find a comprehensive list of features or changelog. What does this community know about it?

Would take this with a grain of salt as it is taken from Wikipedia but:

Confirmed new features:
Support for WebM video playback[57]
Support for Near Field Communication [58]
Improved copy–paste functionalities[59]
Improved social networking features[60]
Unconfirmed new features:
Android Market music store[61]
Media streaming from PC library[61]
Revamped UI[62]
Support for bigger screens with up to Wide XGA (1366?768) resolution[63]
New 3D Games support including new Marketplace area for gaming
Use of mksh for /system/bin/sh[64]
Support for video calls
Support for WebP image files
Support for Google TV

Good Question!

I've heard everything from it's going to be a UI Focused release to "it's all backend enhancements."

Some UI sprucing would be nice, then the Blur/Wiz/Sence... nonsence could just be made into Widgets for that OEM Touch.

(Don't get me wrong, I like Sence but some of the factory mods are just bad (read BING))

Eric Schmidt confirmed NFC today so that's legit. Of course, it will be useless on the DInc since it does not have the hardware for it.
