So we pretty much see this in every forum that derives from a phone with Froyo, but I had to bring it up again anyways. I personally think that its inexcusable for a phone to come out with Froyo nowadays, even on prepaid. The Triumph should have been released with Gingerbread, but theres nothing we can do about it now but to get on Motorolas butts to get an update out. I know I may be jumping the gun since the phone just came out, but I'm a little annoyed. Plus, an update of some sorts might help with some of the issues some people are experiencing. What do you all think?

Definitely. Linpacking at over 40 mflops on a stock rooted froyo is quite impressive... moving my OV and evo4g to gingerbread made them so much faster... but yea there are so few phones instore that have GB its kind of sad. Its like selling ppl computers with vista on it....

I doubt it will get an update. If it was released this late without gingerbread AND its a stock phone? forget it. Who even knows if VM would try to configure the update, we all know how they were with the intercept and how they refuse to update the optimus.

We can do it ourselves can't we like a port or something? Gingerbread would be nice but i like Motoblur mostly because of the social networking.

Give it time. The only reason the OV had so much Dev support right away was because the phone was compatible with the sprint Optimus s roms. So being that the triumph is based off the same build as the wellcomm a99 the huawei x6 the viewsonic viewpad 4 and the spice-mi410, among I'm sure others, should bring a lot of ease to the process. Most of those phones are already on GB. Difference being none share the same radio as the triumph (since sprint and VM use the same radios it was an easy rom swap) I'm optimistic about a custom rom. The last time I waited for an OTA update was 2 years ago with my palm pre. I will never wait for my carrier, they are far too concerned with what's next for them to manufacture, not making ppl who already bought a highly "capable" froyo based phone happier.

I really hope that dev support comes for this phone. I love it, but it seems like everyone else is completely negative about it and hating it. I'm worried that that might turn devs away from the phone...

absolutely correct. as SOON as google releases the newest version of android. its ridiculous that ANY manufacturer would choose to not use it on any phone.

I understand that there were phones in development when gingerbread was released, but the software teams should have immediately converted to gingerbread and released those phones shipping with it.

now, this much later. STILL new phones are shipping with froyo only. most, with no hope of upgrading save for custom roms.

gingerbread is SUCH a better OS than froyo.

I think its all marketing, these manufacturers want to save gingerbread for the phones they think have the highest consumer appeal, so potential customers will see other phones by the same manufacturer and compare them to the "flagship" phone that runs the newer android version, and have a higher probability of buying that phone.

I think the next step is to make standardized software drivers for various phone hardware built into the Android OS, so we can have ONE rom that we flash, and it configures itself for the specific phone on first boot. much like a Windows or mac machine. makes sense, but probably not feasible in reality.

If it were possible however, it would make peoples purchasing decisions for new phones that much easier. youd be able to buy the phone with the keyboard or screen size you like, take it home. and upgrade it to the new android in a simple step.

one can dream, one can dream. :(

I want the Triumph so bad, but I refuse to buy it knowing it runs froyo, and without knowing the developer support for it. I'm usually an early adopter (pentium 4....) but after being burned too many times (once again, pentium 4.......) that Id rather wait it out with tried and tested tech.

oh thats cool. if the screen is at a minimum 3.5 inches and has HVGA resolution, thats still iPhone 1/2/3gs class, which, like it or not, is the standard. that could be interesting. especially paired with a 1GHz cpu.

clearly they are cutting costs on the camera, but you get better components elsewhere in the phone.

I'll keep my eye on this.

LOL yea i like the fact that gingerbread is pre-installed but how small it is i dont like that and the camera ill stick with my triumph

This phone will be junk guaranteed. Have you ever owned a Samsung phone? Only their Nexus and the GSII are acceptable.

i had a Galaxy S Vibrant for a long time. awesome phone. didnt have a good gingerbread rom out when I had it, but great, great phone otherwise.

Well them that might be another exception, but I had the Samsung Continuum and it got no support whatsoever. It was a huge disappointment.
