absolutely correct. as SOON as google releases the newest version of android. its ridiculous that ANY manufacturer would choose to not use it on any phone.
I understand that there were phones in development when gingerbread was released, but the software teams should have immediately converted to gingerbread and released those phones shipping with it.
now, this much later. STILL new phones are shipping with froyo only. most, with no hope of upgrading save for custom roms.
gingerbread is SUCH a better OS than froyo.
I think its all marketing, these manufacturers want to save gingerbread for the phones they think have the highest consumer appeal, so potential customers will see other phones by the same manufacturer and compare them to the "flagship" phone that runs the newer android version, and have a higher probability of buying that phone.
I think the next step is to make standardized software drivers for various phone hardware built into the Android OS, so we can have ONE rom that we flash, and it configures itself for the specific phone on first boot. much like a Windows or mac machine. makes sense, but probably not feasible in reality.
If it were possible however, it would make peoples purchasing decisions for new phones that much easier. youd be able to buy the phone with the keyboard or screen size you like, take it home. and upgrade it to the new android in a simple step.
one can dream, one can dream.
I want the Triumph so bad, but I refuse to buy it knowing it runs froyo, and without knowing the developer support for it. I'm usually an early adopter (pentium 4....) but after being burned too many times (once again, pentium 4.......) that Id rather wait it out with tried and tested tech.
