Gingersnap Root Utility (one-click ROOT!!!) Multi-Platform

Well, I ran the program and it said I was rooted. In my phone I now have superuser, so can I assume everything worked? I saw on an earlier post that they went to adb shell and typed su and went to a # prompt. When I tried this I got

$ su
su
Permission denied
$

Did I do something wrong?

If I did this right, I want to move on to a custom recovery and rom. If not I need to figure out what I need to do.

You need to look at your phone when you do that and allow the Superuser prompt. Note that the Superuser prompt will not display unless your phone's screen is ON and it is NOT at the lock screen.

So, I need to reroot? I had placed the screen to be on while plugged in as you had suggested. I may have missed it while first rooting. I just ran thru the process again and I KNOW it never popped up. I tried installing su from the market and was never offered a prompt then. I left it plugged into the computer, but I wouldnt think that would make a difference.

Okay, this time when I brought up the adb shell and typed su I got the super user request. I guess I just didnt know when and how this prompt would show up.

Maattt Damaaan... I was just asking, since it looks as though gingersnap has been updated, do I need to re-apply the root should I want to unroot later? Still confusing?
LMFAO!!!!!

Glad to see you know what I was talkin about....

What you should do is fire up a root shell, remount /system read-write then move /system/app/Superuser.apk to /data/app/Superuser.apk. Re-rooting will still leave Superuser in /system/app

Thanks drewwalton, I think I was getting the Windows and Linux updates mixed up. I will wait to see what comes out when your 1.3 is ready for windows. Thanks again for all of your advice and help.

Amazing Job

Amazing job, can't wait to get this going. I was one of those poor souls that upgraded to VC the day I thought about rooting, then forgot about it till i'd accidentally upgraded to VD.... just thought about it again and thank god no VE.
