Glass Screen Protector Recommendations (S8 Plus)

The S8+ will be my first smartphone. So I'm not knowledgeable of the past trends in quality in regards to screen protectors.

I'm looking for recommendations based on your actual prior usage. Any brands more consistent than others?

I'm getting to the point of just picking something, crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

I contacted Otterbox for the availability of their Alpha Glass and they replied saying they "don't have an exact date of release." I was thinking if I knew I could get both the Defender case + Alpha Glass, I'd do that and be done with it. However ....

The only criteria I have is that I need to have the glass screen protector at the time of receiving my phone. Tmobile said I'd receive the phone in the mail 2 days after launch. I really don't want to use the phone until I have both a case and screen protector. By the time I receive the phone I'll have 2-3 cases to try out.

Here's a few screen protectors I've been considering:

Zagg

MoKo

Verizon

G-Color

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

I plan on picking up a Zagg tempered Glass protector when I get my phone from Best Buy. Did that with my S6 and LOVE it. I have never had an edge screen before though so I'm not sure what to expect. But I'll be having the guys at the store put it on for me.

Got my phone from Best Buy too. let me know what you find out. The Zaggs were not in store to check out when i went

I can tell you the Zagg Sapphire defense is nothing more than a thick plastic screen protector. Had it for the iPhone 7 plus and was not thrilled at all with it.

It might work on the curved screen though.

The best protector that I found for the curved screens was the Bodyguardz HD Contour. It was plastic but a real nice protector that worked on the curved displays.

Good info thanks.

I'm still waiting for more cases to be released for my final decision of what case to get

I too am getting a curved display for the first time and am giving Alpha Glass a try.

I've been using a dry applied screen protector on my S7E for over six months and have no problems with the ends peeling off.

If you're planning to use a case with your S8 Plus protected with a glass screen protector, you'd best get one that specifically indicates it's "case-friendly," or you may run into overlapping or a lifting issue.

I grabbed the GPEL one first, as it was the first that was available on Amazon, but now there's also one by OTAO for a few bucks cheaper and shipping via Prime, and another one by iCarez for another dollar cheaper, but not Prime.

While these three have the top and bottom in black that blend with the S8 Plus' black bezel, another version by amFilm will be coming out very soon that is totally clear.

All of these have adhesives around the edges and a barely visible dot-matrix pattern to prevent the ugly, discolored contact between two flat surfaces.

So I was on the Otterbox site and noticed we're now able to put the alpha glass in a cart. So I went ahead and ordered the defender and alpha glass with express shipping. Hopefully they'll be here before my phone arrives in the mail (2 days after launch?).

I had spent many hours researching cases and protectors. Such a headache. One problem was that I can buy cases and protectors but that doesn't mean they'll play nicely together. So hopefully with the defender alpha glass combo, I assume they'll be a near perfect match (I hope).

A lot more costly than I would have liked. But if they do what they're supposed to then my mind will be at ease. I can be clumsy. And I like to go on 4-6 hour bike rides, go to the gym, and trek around with my camera gear. So heavy duty protection is appreciated. We'll see.

Thank for all the recommendations. :)

I got the GPEL one as well. Interested to see how well it works with my cases as it claims to.

I went with the Otter Defender and ordered the Alpha Glass to go with it. I'm pretty sure the combo will work well together especially since the Defender is shipping without the screen protector.

I did the same except that I ordered the Alpha Glass from Amazon as it was sold out on the Otterbox website. A couple of weeks ago, I ordered and received the Defender from Otterbox. I got an updated Amazon shipping notification that the Alpha Glass would be delivered 4/25. It looks like my GS8 will be delivered Wednesday or Thursday of this week.

Don't get the ZAGG Glass Curve. Got my S8 early this morning and put on the screen protector as well. Let it sit for about 8 hours and when I went to start using it again, the top half of my screen is almost completely non-responsive. The bottom half is 50/50. This was not the case before I put the screen protector on.

For what it's worth, I also have the zagg glass and have zero functionality issues with it. Did you use the template it came with?

I put one on the wife's phone too and she hasn't said anything about it like it's not there.

Only difference is we have S8+ and you said S8. *shrug*

Look at the horrible reviews on those, that and the price should convince you not to waste your money on any of those you listed.

I'm using the GPEL.. so far seems OK. Was easy enough to apply.. no click issues, no dot matrix. Adhesive SEEMS strong. Only concerns may be dust getting under the sides but only time will tell.

The dust is already becoming a problem with my GPEL. I used an air can while just cleaning the dust off the front of the glass and along the inside of the case and the screen protector lifted up because the adhesive is already weak. Gonna reach out to them to see if I can get a replacement.
