Global phones?

Dna and ip5. Fully functional out of the box with voice text and data

Other phones have issues with data that can be resolved with root

I'm curious, what exactly distinguishes these two models from a half dozen or so models that Verizon labels "global phone?" Are the others "global" but not "global enough?" What should one look for in future models?

All the global phones have gsm radios and voice and text afaik, but Verizon locks the apn of many phones. You can root and unlock the apn.

Phones like the one mentioned above do not have a locked apn.

Verizon advertising phones with locked apn as global is imo false advertising as it can't get data without root.

How easy is to ascertain if apn is locked or not? Does Verizon provide this info freely when asked?

I wonder if the OP went for the Droid 2 Global back in 2011 when he created this thread.

Probably. Either that or they waited and got the Incredible 2 6 months or so later. There weren't a lot of choices back them.

Global simply means they are capable of getting data intetrnationally on Vodafone . Has nothing to do with how open they are.

You are correct. My point being that a lot of people just see it says global and thinks that they can just pop in a sim. Not very many people want to pay $20,000 per gig of data...

Also the Blackberry Z10. There may be others as well

I had a horrible time with the Blackberry Storm (9650, I think) overseas exactly a year ago. I took it for granted that Blackberries were true global phones. The phone would freeze every time I dialed a number. Then the battery had to be pulled which drained it by the time the phone finally fully rebooted. It was a nightmare.

I can't speak for overseas use but when I put the AT&T SIM card in mine it booted up and other than EDGE only data it worked as it should. I did not have to manually edit any APNs just select the right.one in the settings. Voice text Data and MMS worked as expected.

Also the Z10 is completely different software. Your freezing issues probably had more to do with the craptastic software on the Storm than anything. We had those issues dialing in this country too lol

Back then, Verizon Global Service (or whatever it's called) walked me through making my Storm able to accept a foreign SIM. Whatever it accomplished, the end result was what I'd reported.

Oh I get it I just meant that the general busyness of the phone itself also likely contributed to the issues you had. I loved the idea of the storms (I owned both a 9530 and 9550) but they never quite got the software up to sniff.

And here it is. My HTC Rezound's software was updated earlier today. Now, according to Verizon,:

? Global Roaming and Global Support
are now enabled. Now take advantage
of voice and data services in more than
205 countries worldwide. For additional
information and support please visit
https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ns-and-services/international/&token=KxISN6uY.

And now here's a question: is Rezound's APN locked or not?
