global search contacts

My nexus 4 no longer searches contacts with the global search bar. Why?

touch global search bar-->scroll down-->menu-->settings-->phone-->check Contacts

This happened after the latest update. Build JWR66Y.

Try clearing cache and data.

I removed my Google account and then added it again. It didn't work for hours. Then I tried a voice command "call Joe smith" and it pulled my contacts. Now it is searching contacts when I type them. Very strange but I'm glad it is working again. Now if Google can get around the stupid apple ruling that would allow global search to search SMS and email I would be a happy camper. I appreciate everyone's help and suggestions.
