GMAIL app, how can I disable conversation view in the unified inbox?

I know this is an old issue that it is supposed to be solved now with one of the latest update. however i still have the problem on my galaxy S7: i really love GMAIL app but i can not use it properly because i have two accounts (a gmail one and an exchange one) that i use simultaneously. i hate conversation view and so i checked it out in the menu. however it is disabled only when i check the two inboxes separately, while it is still active, and there is no way to rid out of it, in the unified inbox. therefore, i can not check my two accounts simultaneously without the hassle of the the conversation. the only way is to check the inbox one at the time, but this is a serious limitation to me.
any solution or workaround?
