"Gmail Application" keeps trying to reload/screen flickering

Same Gmail App problem on a stock HTC Rezound. The problem caused my Rezound to fail even more. I'd get a blank, black screen instead of the unlock screen. Or, a blank, black screen instead of the home screen.

Factory reset fixed the issue (I reset before I realized this was such a widespread issue).

Boy am I happy to have found this forum. This same issue started for me yesterday (3/21/12) and only happens to one of my three email accounts that I use the app to access. I have a Galaxy S II via T-Mobile. I, too, thought my phone was dying or had some virus. But again, since I'm not the only one, I suppose I will just have to wait until Google fixes this!

The one account having the issue, are you using the Google 2 step authentication on it? How about on the other working accounts?

OK, I just opened up my gmail app again a few minutes ago after not having checked it all day, and I found out that the app completely removed my primary account from the list of connected accounts. WTF!?!??!

Under accounts & sync in the settings menu, both my primary and secondary google accounts are listed, but ONLY my secondary account is listed in the gmail app now. Also, when I go into accounts & sync from the menu, and I click on my primary account, there is no option for syncing gmail anymore. What the hell is going on???

TL;DR --> It only lists calendar and contacts for syncing with my primary account, no gmail anymore.

Did anyone else have this happen?

I had the same problem until I did a factory reset (which I now regret doing since it wasn't just MY problem, but anyway...).

Like many of you, I've been having the same problem with Gmail for most of yesterday and today. This afternoon, I tried opening the Gmail app again and for some reason, it stopped flickering and seems to have gone back to normal - for now. I haven't uninstalled/reinstalled the app, nor have I done a hard reset on my phone, so I'm not sure what happened for it to go back to normal. I have a stock Samsung Galaxy SII and only one primary Gmail account.

Anyone else have any luck? I'm hoping they resolve this issue for everyone soon.

Just checked my gmail again. It is fixed for me, and no problems remain. I guess it was server sided, and they got around to fixing it a short while ago. Hope it' solved for you guys too.

Mine is doing it too. AT&T Motorola Atrix with Nottrix Nottachtrick rom.
Google is working on a fix at the moment.

Still experiencing this problem, secondary account works fine, primary just flashes a blank screen. Come on Google!

I have the same exact problem on my unmodified Samsung Galaxy S. It began last evening (3/22), a little later than most other posters. Only on the primary Gmail account (I have three). What I have noticed:

• Under Settings--Accounts & Sync, there is a sync error for the main account. The sync error is linked to Picasa Web Albums. Unchecking sync for Picasa Web albums doesn't fix the problem.
  
• The other two email accounts work fine if I can get to them. I spend a lot of time pressing "change account" to get there. The odd thing: My main account is not acknowledged in the list, as though it doesn't exist.
  
• I can send emails to my main account and are received on both the web and phone. I just can't access them on the phone.
  
• I have lost all links to Facebook friends in contacts. I'm not sure this is related; just thinking it might be.

I am very glad to have found this thread, because I was about to do a factory reset. Here's hoping Google fixes it soon! I have spent far too much time trying to fix this problem!

- uninstall gmail updates
- clear cache
- clear data
- phone reboot (not reset)

I'am having the same problem. But its only happening to one of the two gmails the MAIN account. I first saw it around 07:30 CST = GMT -6

I wiped data with Titanium Backup on the gmail app & google serices framwork, I cleared the data & stuff from the android OS, uninstalled from google play, uninstalled with android OS, uninstalled with Titanium backup, REinstalled, i rebooted after every one of the things i tried & booted to CWM to wipe dalvik & cache before reinstalling/downloading from 'play" & i tried a TB restore with & out data.:-! (YES i really started to look like that. My GF said i was green with anger)

then i LOL @ her kissed her & jumped out of bed to check my nandroids i have on my laptop to see if the one i wanted to try was on my sdcard or not.... BUT i did the smart thing before i blow the NAND away i googleed it

I had a similar issue. I had to remove my Google account from the accounts area uninstall and reinstall gmail. It fixed it.

It happened to me and I fixed it.
Type gmail on your browser tab main menu on the keft handside of your Samsung mobile --> settings--> advanced--> enable plug-ins --> off and then turn back on.

Problem: my gmail account appears frozen on a particular page, then goes blank as a reload is happening, then same frozen page appears, blank etc forever.
BTW, I cannot delete my account, could add another tho
And the unit is an ONIX, from Aldi.

I tried this from another post but it did not work: It happened to me and I fixed it.
