Gmail badge count multiplying

[Android Central Question]

Just did a software upgrade on my samsung 8+ and now my gmail badge count is multiplying. Example if I have 5 unread emails the badge count shows 25.

Andriod Version 8.0.0
Samsung Experience version 9.0

Hello,
I have the exact same issue on an S8 with latest FW.. 1 unread email>badge shows 1; 2 unread emails>badge shows 4; 3 unread emails>badge shows 9....etc, you get the point. Already cleared cache partition, deleted cache and data for BadgeProvider and Gmail apps. Leaving this here so others know they are not alone. This happened after last OS upgrade. Cheers.

Same problem here on my unlocked GS8+ ever since I updated to Android 8.0 gmail badge notification multiplies. Cleared data on samsung experience home, cleared data on gmail and problem still exists.
Has anyone done a hard reset? I don't plan to, but just curious.
