When I tap Gmail > Menu, it sometime indicates there is email in some of the categories (Inbox, Sent, All mail, Spam, etc.) But when I tap one of the icons that is showing I have email in that category, it says Nothing in (category). Why is that?
(I'm up to date with my updates.)

Have you already tried clearing the app cache for Gmail in Settings>Apps, then Force Stopping it, and then opening again?

Thank you for replying. Yes, I just tried that but it does not work. Here's a screenshot - if I tap on a category that shows it has something in it, I get something like "Nothing to show":

Ok, the next step would be to clear the app data (not just the app cache) for Gmail in that same system settings menu. When you reopen Gmail, let it sign back into your Google account, and then give it a few seconds to re-sync your folders. Does the problem persists?

Ok. I tapped Settings > Apps > Gmail and cleared the cache and the data, then restarted Gmail. The problem still exists.

If you check your Gmail on a laptop using a browser, do those folders still show as being empty?

I checked my Gmail on my desktop. The only category that displayed a number after it was Spam and it displayed "5". The phone displayed "4".
In a similar fashion, Important displayed 4, and the phone displayed 1; Sent displayed 4, the phone displayed 1; All mail displayed 8, the phone displayed nothing; and Trash displayed nothing, the phone displayed 3.

Not going any further with this until I hear your thoughts on what I found. :coffee:

When I look at my Gmail app on my phone, I see two different ways that numbers appear next to an inbox folder. There are plain numbers, and there are also numbers that also have the word "new" after them, which are also highlighted in the color chosen for that inbox. The plain numbers indicate emails that are unread but not new, so they might be from many days or even weeks, months, or years ago. Have you looked far back in those folders to see if there are any stray unread emails?

With respect to my Gmail, I've looked at so many possibilities that I can't remember any of them, other than one of them fixed my problem. :)
