The email app comes with Android and can be modified by OEM's. That's the "open source" app. Gmail is Google's imaging of it.

the Gmail with Exchange Support isn't on Play Store? I feel a bit skeptical loading apks for email.

The ability to eliminate conversation view would be nice. People have only been requesting this for roughly five years though. The technology required for such a task must be overwhelming for google.
