New android user coming from Iphone. I have a coouple of questions.

When I am reading mail and delete a message how do I get the phone to go to the next message in the inbox. Now as soon as I delete the message I am returned to the inbox and have to select the next message.

Is there a spell check available?

Is there a way to determine what labels are shown? Now it shows all labels and I don't want to see spam, starred, etc.

The Iphone has all these features.

Thanks,
Tom

The spell check should be automatic when you are typing. I'm pretty sure for your first concern thats just how it is. Just a tip but if you wanted to delete mass messages on your phone... you can't lol. At least as far as I know. However if you go on your mail account on the computer then w.e you delete, save or w.e will be synced and will appear on your phone as such. I'm sorry if this didn't help much.

just to tag along in this thread..........

can you put the gmail in with the other emails...in the universal "messaging" folder? I am trying to get used to gmail, but it seems the onboard yahoo mail works alot better than gmail.....and considering that I already use a yahoo account (bellsouth acutally), it's great having the native push yahoo mail onboard. all of my emails are available in the universal messaging application(yahoo, exchange, texts, and facebook)....except gmail and gtalk.....seems rather backwards.

Hey Tom. By next, I assume you mean a newer message. By default, there's an option to see the next oldest message in your inbox. Look at the bottom of an opened e-mail and you'll see "Archive" "Delete" and "Older." If you are in a message and want to the message above in the inbox, press menu and you will see an up arrow labeled "Newer"

Edited to add: If you use the Motorola mail client, you will have an up and down arrow within the message field to go to previous or newer e-mail. You'll also get the benefit of cut-and-paste.

Just to touch on something Yatogo said. You can, in fact, delete mass e-mails at once. From in your inbox just touch the check mark next to the messages you want to delete. (You will see the check mark turn green) As you select e-mails, you will see "Archive" "Lables" and "Delete" at the bottom of the screen. Press the desired button. Note: If you press menu with items selected, you can also take the following actions on multiple e-mail:

  • Add Star
  • Report Spam
  • Mark as Read
  • Mute
  • Deselect All

Spell check is built in (keyboard dictionary). Naturally there will be words that are not in the dictionary, but you know are spelled correctly. Be sure to tap on your spelling in the list of words presented so that it can be added to your user dictionary.

Is there a way to determine what labels are shown? Now it shows all labels and I don't want to see spam, starred, etc.

Go to your inbox, click menu, click Labels. From there you can control the various labels that you want, or do not want, synced.

The Gmail app will not populate the universal message inbox. Yahoo does this because, presumably, you set up a POP e-mail account with the default e-mail client. The only way to pull in our Gmail into this folder would be to set it up as a POP account, and not use the Gmail app. I'm trying both. I appreciate that the Motorola mail app has cut-and-paste.
