I have a gmail account (obviously) that does not show up in the messaging app (or widget) where my hotmail account and texting show up. There's also a universal inbox in this app. Is there a way to add Gmail to this, or should I uninstall gmail and reinstall it? New to the Droid so please forgive my newb question...

Gmail (as in mail from your Gmail app) does not show up in the messaging inbox. If you want that, then you'll need to add your Gmail account as a separate POP3 or IMAP account.

Yes, it will show up there, but your Gmail mail won't show up in the universal inbox unless you add your Gmail account as a separate POP3 or IMAP account.

Easily done (with pictures)

Step 1: Click on My Accounts

Step 2: Add Account

Step 3: Select Email (Not Gmail)

Fill in your account details and you're good to go. Just remember to turn of email sync on your gmail accounts, or you'll end up with double notifications.

You guys rock! Thanks Corey for the pictures. That made it very easy.

Never occured to use the Universal Inbox for my Gmail, thanks for the tip, I've been using the Moto App for my POP email account, the Gmail app for my Gmail, and Text Message app for my texts.

3 questions on this note, is there a way to shortcut my Universal Inbox to my home screen?

Does this automatically push my Gmail, or does it do what the Incredible does and force me to choose to retrieve every 15 minutes? If it DOES push my Gmail, How will this treat my Pop email account which I previously set to every 4 hours?

For home screen access - Press, hold blank space on home screen > shortcuts > messaging (mailbox icon, email icon or gmail icon).

For automatic downloading (push), go into settings > data manager > data delivery > check background data, data roaming, data enabled.

Then go into settings > accounts > pick an account > choose enable push (or whatever it's called) and also select a default fetch schedule if push isn't available. For Gmail, just enable sync.

Oh yes, you can get your fetched Pop 3 email whenever you want it by clicking "refresh" either on your computer's gmail screen or via menu on the X with the email app open.
