gmail issue

Hi, I'm new to android and love my Note 8 but having a few issues with the gmail app.
I sometimes have to delete messages several times and also having trouble sending some emails.
I have a few email accounts linked but appears to be random.
Any advice appreciated, great forum!

To add a bit more info, the items sit at queued status and will not send. Tried restarting phone, turning Wi-Fi on and off. closed app but no joy.

I noticed yesterday that mail sits at queued status for a while too, even with Samsung mail uninstalled. I imagine there'll be a gmail update soon

looking on Google there has been similar issues in the past. am I better off using the Samsung email app?

Verizon has been having problems for days, I'm surprised no one else mentioned that.

I have been using Gmail for years. Periodically I have to remove and re-add my Google account in order to get my emails as they come in, but that's usually after an OS update.

Do you know if your email is setup as POP3 or IMAP? I had that issue a long while back and it was because it was set up as POP3. Once I switched it to IMAP, I had much more control and never ran into those issues again.

I've had random issues with Gmail on my past 3 or 4 phone's going back about 2 years. Notifications come hours late sometimes, outgoing messages get stuck in the outbox, etc. I decided the other day to start making a full switch to Proton Mail but that's another post.
For me, if I see a message get stuck sending, I go the outbox and refresh it and it sends immediately. Obviously we shouldn't have to do that but they don't seem interested in fixing these issues.

I'm in the UK on O2. I still have emails stuck there and will need to send from pc when I get to work. Think I'll set up Samsung email app today, any advice for using that?

Gmail is a pain a lot of the time, but I actually haven't had any issues with it on the Note. I don't use it as my main email (sigh, been using Yahoo for too long to try and switch) but it gives me notifications and updates. Is this a common problem with Gmail and are you sure it's not some dumb problem with Gmail itself rather than on your end?

it hasn't happened since set up so presumably a gmail issue but odd it's not effecting others. Think I'll have a go with Samsung mail app as emails are important to me

Switched to Samsung mail and like that it previews the messages when hovering over the messages. All working as expected
