Gmail notifications not updating

Seems like since the last software update, my Gmail notifications (for unread emails) doesn't update. I'm using Nova Launcher to get the little number indicators on the app icon.
Any ideas. Other apps like Facebook are updating fine. Gmail WILL update, but I have to power on & off. Thanks in advance.

There is another thread about this. I believe it has to do with the launcher needing updating. I haven't read the thread in a while.
