Gmail or inbox?

So, as the Title asks which app for email do you use here? I didn't realize that with the inbox app, if you get an attachment or a doc file that you Want to quickly view, to can't save it directly to drive which would eliminate the need if another document viewer. With the Gmail app, you can...

Thanks for any help.

I personally use GMail. Took a dive into Inbox waaaay back when it was introduced and didn't last a week. Just not for me. Haven't really delved back into it so I don't know if they added new features or fixed what, in my opinion, was broken, but little details like the one you mention make the 'usefulness' of the smart filtering and categorization be less effective.

ya know it's interesting, i don't mind using Inbox app, but i also don't want to have to download another app for a document viewer which i did just to able to view documents. its almost useless. I mean as far as the other features of the Inbox app and organization/categorization, they're nice, but i don't NEED them. What i would like to happen is the email app to be able to quickly open up and save documents to Google Drive, where i can view them , and then delete them. I suppose I'll go back to the Gmail app for now then.

I use INBOX, it does a much better job of organizing things. However there is a big limitation in INBOX, it's GMAIL only. The GMail app lets you add non-Google mail servers.

Tried Inbox, but GMail for me.

This.

I'd use Inbox if it wasn't for this limitation

Inbox.... I get a ton of emails coming through my gmail account daily, split into a few distinct catagories... Inbox handles them in a far better way than GMail, not to mention the UI navigation on Inbox lends to quicker movement. I try GMail from time to time to see if they've made improvements, but always go back to Inbox.

If you don't get a lot of emails, GMail will be fine. If you get any sort of volume, once you configure labels inside Inbox, you'll see a huge difference.

That being said, I still use the gmail web client on my laptop.... Inbox's web site feels like a big version of the app, and the UI that works so well on my phone kind of sucks sewage on a large screen with a keyboard and mouse. GMail's web version is far more info dense and functions more like a thick client than a blown up app.

Yeah I see what you mean, I think for now I'm going to stick with the Gmail app though.

Yeah... the one thing about Inbox is that you have to go through and set it up. It'll do some sorting automagically, but those are just canned stuff like "Promotional", etc... So you need to set up filters to pluck out stuff or Inbox just seems like a dumb'd down email client. Once they are set up, though, it's a breath of fresh air... all my important stuff is right there, sorted into tidy little groups. If I load up my mailbox in Gmail, it looks like a giant sea of disorganized garbage.

Right now, I'm showing 217 unread emails in my inbox. In Gmail, that's be a cluster of epic proportions. In Inbox, some 200 of those aren't all that pressing and are stashed away in a category to be looked at at my convenience, or simpley removed en mass if I don't care to bother with them. The remaining are lumped into their own groups.

It was really easy for me to transition over to Inbox when it launched, but I was already using filters, labels and categories in Gmail by that point.

The labels of inbox can be cool but it does lack the functionality of saving documents to drive unfortunately

Inbox hands down. Stick with it long enough and gmail will feel like old school. It's much more efficient in organizing email on the fly. I personally love it. Limitation to not having other email clients on it doesn't bother me as I only use google email accounts ;)
I believe inbox is where gmail is eventually going.

Yes but you see with inbox, I need another document viewer app in addition if you know what I mean.

Tons of them out there for free. Still not an issue for me but I understand how it could be for you.

I mean it's not too much of an issue just an extra app. Maybe I'm being too anal about it.
