Gmail Stopped Syncing

I've tried everything. Power Saving is off, putting apps to sleep is off, phone sync is on, background sync is on, gmail sync is on, I deleted my Google account and added it back, I cleared the app data and cache, made sure everything is updated and finally FACTORY RESET MY PHONE and my gmail account still doesn't sync to the Gmail app on my phone unless I open the app and manually refresh, restart my phone or turn sync for gmail in my Google account on the phone off and back on. All of my other Google apps sync correctly automatically (calendar, contacts, etc). This is driving me nuts. I've been missing so many emails because I have to manually sync now. Please help! It only started doing this out of nowhere recently.

I have the same issue but gmail syncs fine on wifi on my ancient moto razr maxx hd. I never updated it so it has a 5 yr old version of Gmail app. I also fine gmail syncs fine if set up on phone native email app. It's something about the gmail app itself that sucks.

I have not used the Gmail app for some time. The email portion of Gmail refuses to sync if the system app Health Services is not allowed to access location. So I use Gmail for contacts and calendar but use the stock app for my Gmail email.

I don't have a health services app either. This just started happening to me out of nowhere which is what makes it so annoying. I don't like the native app

Sorry. I was speaking from memory. Turned Gmail sync back on to get actual problem.

The icon for health services is the same as for body sensors and body sensors is the problem.

Gmail informs me that:

This app won't work properly unless you allow Google Play services' request to access the following:
  • body sensors
To continue, open Settings, then Permissions, and allow all listed items.

Body sensors is one of many items which wants to track location all the time. I don't allow it to run since I don't want to be tracked all the time. But with body sensors turned off, the mail portion of Gmail will not work. So I turn off sync for email in the Gmail app and use native email app for gmail mail.

I've never had an issue with my gmail. I've had every Galaxy S, this is my first Note and I had no issues the first few weeks. SMH I guess I have to start looking into an alternative

Strangely, my Asus Android watch detects gmail immediately if I use gmail count as a complication. It will show the 1 meaning 1 unread gmail long before any other form of notification. Hours sooner. The watch does not give the actual gmail notification allowing you to read the gmail until the phone does but at least I notice I have one.
