GN vs. LG Spectrum

These replies are actually hilarious. Have any of you seen the screen on the spectrum?? It's better than any other phone on the market... plenty of ppl that saw it at CES have already stated that; one of my friends who saw it at CES personally told me that - and he's a tech geek who has seen almost every display out there. I find it funny that the display isn't #1 on most ppl's lists - you know, it's just that thing you'll be LOOKING AT for the next two years. lol unless there are other obvious caveats, like the phone weighs 5 lbs, or it's purple or something, the display is obviously the #1 criteria on my list when choosing a phone.

And who the hell cares about what version of android it's on, or what skin they're using?! I have a droid x STILL on gingerbread, using go launcher, and even with my single core it's fast as hell. GB is SO easy to customize as far as skins and themes, esp with any good launcher, so to even make a negative comment about the skin on the LG seems stupid.

That said, what does ICS really have to offer that's gonna blow anyone away??? Different icons? lol. to be completely honest a lot of you just sound like GN fanboys, likely because you already bought it on impulse not realizing better phones would be out soon after. It's understandable - ppl like to defend the hardware they own, but the negative comments towards the spectrum sound like childish ad hominem attacks.. "LG sucks".

So think about what actually matters in the real world when choosing - the spectrum's display is better that the GN (visually and as per DPI), the camera is better, the processor is better, it has SD slot/removable storage, it's lighter, and to top it all off it's $100 cheaper! Sorry for the long rant - someone had to be the voice of reason here.....

You read my mind. One more thing I hear is LG has very good radios on their devices. As good as Motorola. I'm at the point where I could care less what version of Android I'm on. Give me a good device out of the box (not an experiment) & enjoy. I'm kinda thinking the Spectrum display is what we'll see on the iPhone 5.

Agreed 100%. Everyone is so busy riding the ICS hype train that they never stopped to think... are there even really that many advantages over GB???

Another funny thing is many of the reviews are saying the spectrum's display "slightly trumps" the iphone's retina display. lol! They're dismissing one obvious thing - the spectrum's display is BIGGER, by an entire inch, and STILL has a better PPI. That's not slightly better, that's significantly better.

And you'll read it in many reviews, the screen is better that the GN. All things considered, the spectrum is def my next phone come Jan 19th...

Your reply is actually the most hilarious one in this thread. Congrats sir.

I'm also very interested in the Spectrum. I had a GN from launch day until yesterday and although I really like ICS, the GN hardware is early 2011 and has allot of issues. Poor radios. Poor camera. No VZW support for Samsung accessories that are available for the GSM versions. Etc.

My question is, how easy will the Spectrum be to root and will there be ICS Roms available soon?

And then, there's the HTC Edge coming!

The LG will probably be easy to root, but I wouldn't count on a huge development community...but who knows really.

Just as an fyi- the spectrum is a snapdragon processor thats pre clocked at 1.5. That SoC is used alot bc it seems to work really well with lots of radios (especially with vzw). The OMAP in the Nexus is factory set at 1.5 rather then oc'd up to it and they clocked it down most likely bc ICS is really good at using more of the board then previous versions and for battery life. The OMAP4 also uses dual channel memory which is again better then a faster oc and is taken advantage of by ICS. 2 of the latest and best selling 4g Androids on vzw were both OMAP based which means that there is a lot of work going on right now to continue to improve this chipsets connection to and interaction with LTE. As far as the screen is concerned pixel density is only a part of what's important and honestly can be not important at all depending on what fits best for you. With my rooted vibrant running voodoo color my wife and I compared our screens (with screen protectors even) side by side to an iphone 4 and hands down ours looked better. My stock SGS2E4GT has a lower pixel density and even the apple fans at work admitted my screen made theirs suck, even my Nexus S 4g (even newer and better voodoo then back in the vibrant days) blew them away they didnt even look at the 4s by the time I pulled the Galaxy Nexus out of my pocket they knew what they were buying next. LED is just a more pleasing visual experience overall compared to LCD (which is what the spectrum has) and even with copying the process that makes amoled SUPER theres still more material between you and the light on the screen. Plus since this is the same ips screen as the iphone (lg makes those) but without apple controling everything the image rendering on pixels will be different which means smaller overall images. Android is amazing but ICS and those new icons perfectly adapt and adjust, and has a built it set of various sized system text. So im sure it will have the best looking Lcd screen to date but without ICS it wont fully use it, and LED is just plain nicer anyway. And "better phones" might come out but better hardware here and there doesnt mean bc it wont run as smooth or as well and even though ICS is built to easily scale to various soc and screens and even multiple cores, this is the device built to run it best. My Nexus S could easily take out any dual core phone on pointless benchmarks and side by side real world useage comparisons, all the way up to the bionic. Even the Epic Touch was screaming fast but it didnt run as smooth and perfect everytime bc it wasnt what gingerbread was built for.

That's all your opinion. Each screen type has its positives and negatives. Neither is better than the other.

From what I can gather, the Spectrum is still using the S3 Snapdragon. Same one that's in the ReZound. If it's an S4 it's another story, but how can anyone think the processor in the Spectrum is better than the OMAP4? The S3 is a generation older than the OMAP4.

Plus, the thing is never getting updates. Ask the G2X boys what they think about that.

sounds like you're condemning GN owners (who btw can return their GN today if they really wanted the spectrum) and calling them fanboys for the same thing you're doing for your precious spectrum.

i wish you luck with your future lg phone-you're gonna need it

Well having just returned my Nexus for a multitude of problems, I guess future LG owners can say the same to you. So, good luck.

I will acknowledge that the Nexus is not a perfect device. To those of you believing that the LG Spectrum WILL be upon its release are in for a rude awakening as well. The thing the Nexus has going for it is the frequent updates that the Spectrum will never see. Just hope that there are few issues for the new Spectrum owners, because it may be a long wait until you see the fixes.

If it was me, Nexus without a doubt. A regular consumer, I would go with the DROID RAZR MAXX.
