Going from a micro sim to a nanotechnology sim type card

I want to upgrade from a Galasy S5 with a micro SIM to a Galaxy S7 with a nano SIM card. I'm still on the original unlimited plan and, don't want to effect it if requesting a replacement sim from Verizon does this. I've read about cutting the edges of the card also.

Look at the card you have with a magnifying glass. If it has scored lines within the existing border, you probably have a card which can be adapted to the smaller tray. Carefully separate it out if you do.

Unfortunately, my micro SIM doesn't have the lines in it for nano SIM. My card is actually from the pre 2011 era with the unlimited data plan. I've kept that so far. I know there are ways to cut it. Will getting a nano from Verizon effect my unlimited data. Verizon offers unlimited data now. But, does it compare to my preexisting data?
