Going insane... Love my Note 5 and Love the Nexus 6p

I had the Note 5 twice and I also have a 6S+. I returned it the first time for the 6S+ and just missed Google. The second time I grabbed one I just determined I could not live with the battery life. Then all the Nexus deals started and I grabbed the 6P. I do not miss the Note 5 at all. In my typical use, I find the Nexus considerably smoother and battery life is about 20% better. Speaking of battery life I found the AndandTech review interesting. They show the Note to be faster and have better battery. It just goes to show you that real world use does not reflect those tests they run because I definitely do not see worse battery on the Nexus. My wife and I are on a trip and she has the old iPhone 6+. Yesterday we we on 2 flights and hammered our phones while traveling. I get considerably more emails due to business and I usually check my phone a good bit more than her. She does check Facebook more but I used twitter heavily. At the end of the day before dinner we both needed to charge. I was at 27% and she was at 38%. I felt that was a great example because the old 6+ is by far the best battery life of any phone out there. I know this is not a true control test but I trust this more than I would a lab test.

Note sold quick today. At least it offset the entire cost of the Nexus 6p. Was even able to transfer my Asurion Insurance to the 6p before hand and not have to buy that again

Agreed. I stopped putting a lot of weight in those benchmark tests long ago.. Battery performance is unique to that person on that phone. No automated test is going to replicate that.

Sure, you can use them as a general guide, but I've seen phones that dominate those tests perform poorly, and bottom dwellers do really well.

I'm already very happy. I have videos in Photos that are like 4-5 years old I put in there a couple years ago. They would absolutely not play using Photos with my Note 5. Just the circle just turning and turning. On the Nexus they are all playing within 3 secs. Casting it all on my Chromecast 2 to the big screen

I love this thread as I have the same issue. I owned my first Note 5 for a few months when I got the 6P. I love how the 6P feels in the hand, speed, and overall experience. I went back and forth during the 2-week evaluation period and returned the 6P but I think about getting it again. It's crazy that I still think about it.

I'm not a big S-pen user. For me the Note 5 had slightly larger fonts, slightly better screen and I enjoyed some of the features like Themes keeping things fresh. But I missing picking up the 6P with that super fast finger print sensor and quicker pace.

With the $50 drop, I'm considering it again.....

Had a Note5 for a month. Now i have a 6P. Definitely different loves. I used to be able to sign in to BofA on my Note5 with fingerprint, but 6P can't. I loved the s-pen to.
Being a MetroPCS customer made the decision a bit easier for me though. It's a bit of a bother to get a note5 working well on metro, the 6P was a bit simpler.
I am thinking that the Note5 would start slowing down and acting up here and there around the 3 month mark though. Im hoping the 6P keeps coming strong with the sweetness.

I'm on Verizon, and while I would love to have a Nexus it's hard to justify paying full price for a Nexus. I got a 64gb Note 5 from Best Buy and got a free 32" Samsung LED TV a $200 BB gift card and $300 from Verizon for opening a new line of service. So it will wind up costing me about $120 total for the Note. But I love reading about the Nexus in case I decide to make a switch

I got over the MultiWindow, rarely used it on phones. I use it on my iPad mini 4.

I understand that it's a great device but that is the reason I've not ever been pressed to go Samsung... Because I don't use the extra features

I miss the s-pen and the keyboard still, bit I am happy withy 6P. I was under the impression that touch wiz is likely to slow down after a number of months, were the nexus should be expected to just keep going strong. The fingerprint sensor, oops I mean the imprint, works faster and more way more often, even though I cant sign in to BofA with my 6P. But thats ok because I get slightly better battery from my 6P, even if it is bigger. Im really enjoying the sound that I get out of it though...! * %)%*‰§~≠]

I'm on Verizon, and while I would love to have a Nexus it's hard to justify paying full price for a Nexus.

No matter what you do, you're paying full price for the phone. If you go with device payments, you're paying full price, just in installments. If you go the subsidized route, you pay a down payment and then you pay $40 a month for line access (instead of $20 a month like you would on either a device payments plan or paying full price).

I had to pick up a Droid Turbo 2 for my niece and the subsidized route was actually going to cost more than device payments or full retail. IIRC the down payment was $200, and the extra $20 line access charge ($40 instead of $20 when you go subsidized) figures out to $680, where the retail price is $624. So it actually costs more to subsidize the phone when it's all totalled up.

Make no mistake, they'll get reimbursed for the full price of the phone no matter what. The only benefit of going the carrier route is that you can make payments rather than paying the full amount up front, and in some cases certain carrier features won't be available, like when Verizon makes WiFi calling available to other devices, unlocked phones most likely won't get it.

I picked up a Droid Turbo 2 for myself as well to use in places where I might damage my phone and to use as a backup if I have issues with my 6p. After seeing how well it resists shattering the screen, and having the Moto Apps and expandable storage, I decided to pull the trigger on it. I considered the Note 5, but with no expandable storage I'd be in the same boat as my 6p, and while it does seem pretty resistant to damage, it's not as damage proof as the Turbo 2.

I know it won't see updates as fast as the Nexus, or possibly even the Note if last year is any indication, but otherwise it seems to be a very solid phone. The only things I could see the Note being an advantage for my purposes is the brighter screen and a better camera.

I have both the Note 5 & the Nexus 6p & I just don't think the Nexus is all that good.

Ok it's smooth but you have to do so much messing about to get things within easy reach & as for the audio quality through the head phone compared to the Note 5 is utter pants.

I don't use the spen as much as I'd like to but when I used the N6p & didn't have the pen I really missed it.

The nexus is good, no doubt, but I chose the Note 5 & now my N6p is gathering dust & really don't miss using it at all.

I have a note 5,and I bought the 6P, only to return it after 9 days due to a problem with the music player. While I agree with alot of what you say, I won't be getting another, as I couldn't get used to the pure android software experience, and also dislike the 4:3 aspect ratio of the camera.

Looking forward to the S7, especially if they bring out the rumoured 6 inch version 👍

You can change the aspect ratio of the camera to 16:9 you know. One of the first things I did. Drops the megapixels to 8, but still more than enough.

When you say a problem with the music player, do you mean the app itself or was there physical issue with the phone? Because you can replace the stock music player with another app. In fact I have never used a stock music player on any of these phones because they all suck.

I did drop it as you said, but I shouldn't have to, the N5 comes with 16:9 at 16MP, surley all camera's should all have their full resolution at 16:9. Seems to me they were trying to appeal to Apple users by setting full res at 4:3!

The issue was that the volume would suddenly drop, and there was a noise similar to a washing machine. Some tracks wouldn't play at all, rebooting the phone would resolve this, but one one occasion I had to switch it off overnight to get it working again. 😕

Every phone has it's strengths and weaknesses but it just so happens that Samsung's biggest weaknesses - subpar software optimization, delayed updates, bloatware - are total dealbreakers for me compared to their strengths - camera, Spen... um... did I mention camera and Spen? were too minimal to consider as a preference. OK, maybe I'm being a bit harsh but really, unless you're really that big into having a stylus, what does the Note 5 really offer in order to make you ignore those 3 sacrifices listed above that's anything of major significance? The fingerprint reader isn't even as good as nexus Imprint either. And when the next major version of Android comes out with a bunch more bells and whistles you'll be stuck watching the Galaxy S7 Note 6 take priority for that update over you as well (although they'll be slow enough getting it themselves as it is).

And Samsung as far as I can see resents the fact that the success of their mobile phones is tied to Google, and actively resist going the minimalist route with their software in order to ensure their look is stamped all over their software whether it's for the better or not so you're never going to see that bloat go away as long as they have any say in the matter.

I have both as well, and am definitely preferring the 6P right now (it is much newer to me though).
I'll definitely be using the Note 5 when 6.0 finally hits it in a couple weeks/months.
