Going insane... Love my Note 5 and Love the Nexus 6p

I've got both as well. I do love the 6P, but I think that I prefer the Note 5 overall. The screen is great and I love the added functionality of the s-pen.

I'm into my 2nd week with the Nexus 6P over the Note 5, and I continue to be impressed. I received the February 2016 security update OTA nine days after the factory images were released. That's the timeliness I sought for my updates. Also, battery life is absolutely phenomenal! For two consecutive days, I disconnected my phone from the charger at 7 am and didn't reconnect it until 1 am the next morning. That's 18 hours, and I still had 34% of my battery left. I didn't restrict my usage at all during that period of time. I would not have been able to use my Note 5 for that length of time without recharging it once or twice.

When it comes to cell phones... polyamory is ok. I have a harem of 4 in my stable. I trade off weekly. Enjoy.

This is my dilemma too... I was all ready to go get the Note 5... shoes on, keys on my hand, waiting for the GF and then I saw some sample photos from the 6p and I held off instantly. Really thought about what I was getting... Most of the features I wouldn't use on the Note 5. I'd probably use the S-Pen for maybe 3 work days, until I found a Post-It was faster and more convenient, I saw some of the review videos of all the bloatware on this phone and I was not impressed.

I think I'm going to go with the Nexus 6p as all I want is a great FAST camera (no shutter lag, and sharp photos). Can anyone comment on the shutter speed/lag? Right now I have my OnePlus One locked in "Clear Shot" mode, and I'm waiting about 5 to 8+ seconds for an image to render, otherwise, the shots are blurry, and muddy even in daylight.

Camera on the Note 5 is amazing. Extremely fast.

OK.... it all depends on whether or not you have HDR+ enabled. Turned off, the 6P is pretty quick.... any delay is from you basically are waiting for the camera to focus. I've always been a tapper myself (that way what I want is focused and exposed) and once it is dialed in, there's no shutter lag... tap it/snap it. As with most things, the darker it is, the slower it'll find focus. In most brighter conditions, it's very quick.... I did a little ad hoc test where I timed how long it took me to use the double tap power button shortcut to take a picture. it was about 1.5s to capture (from the screen off mind you).

With HDR+ enabled, things change a bit... HDR+ rips off several exposures (the same settings BTW). So the exposure time is longer, and also dependent on how dark it is. In good, relatively bright conditions, HDR+ rips off shots not all that much slower than normal mode, and when its darker, yes, that 'shutter' delay is noticeable, but the resulting image is soooo much better than you'll see on any other phone. Noise, processing artifacts, etc... HDR+ is a miracle cure for having a tiny wee camera sensor and lens. Oh, and HDR+ will take a little bit to then process the final image, but that's all done in the background and you don't have to wait for it to complete.

I leave it on AutoHDR+ and let it do its thing.

My wife's S7 is obviously quicker (nothing is as fast as an S7) in most all conditions, but that doesn't really end up giving it better pictures. Bright light, there's no difference between the two. In mixed and dark lighting, the 6P in HDR+ simply does a better job of handling the light (or lack thereof), so you get something back for the slight reduction in speed.
