Going to root for the first time, one question

I am going to root from stock settings to GC 2.0, and I've found a few guides that help me through the process, but there is just one thing I can't seem to find an answer on. Should I wipe my phone and SD card before starting? I imagine it wouldn't work to keep all of my apps and music on my SD card, but before I wipe everything I want to make sure.

No need to wipe the SD card, but you'll definitely want to wipe the phone.

To be a bit more specific (hopefully you found these tips in a write-up) after flashing CWM with Odin, you'll want to wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache and do a factory reset all within CWM. That's the best way to start with a clean slate before flashing a ROM.

Yeah I did see that in the instructions I'm going to use. Thank you for clarifying though. I was still slightly unsure if that was enough to get a "clean" install.

One more question: When I put the SD card fix and the GC 2.0 ROM on my SD card, is that the entire zip file I'm putting on there?
