Going to the Sprint Store for hardware issue, should I un-root?

I rooted, but still have stock Rom.
Speakerphone has a blown speaker.

Should I unroot? Will they still support it? I've heard they have used the excuse "Well, your rooted your device so we won't honer the warranty". But this is clearly a hardware issue - the speaker sounds exactly like a blown speaker.

to be on the safe side, i would go ahead and un root, then once the fix is complete, you can root again. that way its like nothing ever happened...

I got my screen replaced and my speaker replaced while rooted. Just put a stock rom on. they wont sort through your apps for Super user.
Also I put a screenlock on so they couldnt get into the phone anyway. I just showed them the problem and then hit power quick and handed it to them to fix and they couldnt unlock. hahahaha

If they really wanted to they could have checked the bootloader, but I found they dont really care if it looks stock

I think I'll try with S-OFF/Rooted. Maybe I'll try to hide the apps. The lock-screen is a great idea.

If it doesn't work, I can always un-root and try another store I guess.

Thanks Guys!

you cant hide super user. . . atleast I never found a way to hide apps.

they will unroot for you. just make sure you back up.

Sprint doesn't care if it's rooted. Sprint also doesn't do any work as part of your warranty. Your warranty is with the manufacturer.

OP here. Actually, Sprint does do the warranty work (I have the ESRP plan).

They didn't seem to care it was rooted. They just soldered a new speaker on the phone and it now works great. (Was kinda hoping they couldn't fix it and I would get a new EVO 3D though :)

I've actually mailed back two evo's that were rooted. No one cares. I've also had service on a rooted phone as well. (Sidenote: I've also had Sprint employees try and sell me wireless tether.... "Pssst.... you want free hotspot?" lol)

Lmao yeah the Sprint reps don't care to much.

Sprint will repair your phone, but it is not associated with any warranty. It is a service they sell. They are authorized to work on HTC by the manufacturer, but that is just in regards not voiding your warranty when we open the phone. I would imagine you signed an ETicket and you'll find the small print in there.

Point of that is Sprint currently does not care about rooting. Only thing you risk is voiding your manufacturer warranty which few people ever use, I suspect.

Glad they took care of you and all is good now. Give them a good survey if you get the chance.
