Good luck Google

Note that Google is offering basically the same price point as Samsung without expandable storage and without the IP 68 rating. I don't see why they couldn't have sold the smaller Pixel at $549.
That'll be the price on Black Friday. I guarantee it.

Google decided they were going to make a flagship phone instead of poorly built midrange phones. I see no problem here.

The problem that people have is these aren't flagship phones. They are missing features that could've been added and don't fit in the price ranges that they are offered in. Why would you spend $859 for a Pixel XL when you can just get a Note 7 with water resistance, micro SD Card slot, S-pen, probably a better display, with more features for the same price? Google made an iPhone. It's only flagship in price... They could've at least added stereo speakers and water resistance instead of having those ugly bezels. And people make fun of iPhones bezels...

I have a 6p that is great and I paid $499 new. It's specs mirror the Pixel except for the SOC processor. The 6p is more than fast and suits me fine and supports most if not all USA LTE installed networks.

Because I don't want a Samsung phone. I want Google's software and optimization. That's why I bought the silver XL 128 GB version. I've read the speakers are very good and all the hands on reviewers I've seen have been impressed with the speed and fluidity of the OS and the speed of the camera. Google was able to better optimize the hardware and the software because they had full control of both sides. This is the only flagship I'd be willing to pay that much money for. Of course this is my opinion.

I decided to get the Pixel, but hesitated due to the price. Ultimately I wanted a sub 5.5" phone and opted for the Pixel due to specs (mainly proc & camera). I considered the 5X, but it was more of a value choice and the camera would be a downgrade from what I have had recently. The OP3 was never really considered since I believe its still not supporting CDMA at all, and I never looked at the ZTE device.

Phones that give you that:
  • Nexus 6P
  • Nexus 5X
  • OnePlus 3
  • ZTE Axon 7
All cost < $450 or less
Not the same experience as the pixel. I own the 6p. Great device. But I'm still getting a pixel xl.

Cancelling my Pixel XL and going with a year old phone, a unlocked new Nexus 6P 128gb for under $530...plan on testing the pixel and returning it within the allotted time frame and paying the $35 restocking fee. For me... this just makes so much sense rather then buying an unproven $1000 phone no matter the manufacturer, best of luck to those who have bought it should be a great phone!

Apple and Samsung have brand recognition. Nexus has... affordable reference phones until today.

Except, this isn't a nexus. It's a pixel. Pixel is Google's high end consumer line. The pixel c is in line, pricing wise, with iPad and Samsung. Thinking of pixel phone as a nexus is your mistake.

Good luck?

You know instead of making a whiny post about something you will not be getting. You can let your wallet speak and move on with your life?

Stop 100 people on the street. Ask how many of them know iPhone, Samsung, and Pixel. If 1 person knows Pixel, I'll eat a jellyfish.

You better hope I'm not one of the 100 people on that street...unless you like eating jellyfish. But seriously that's just a marketing argument. I think between Google and Verizon the marketing will be there. I've already seen a ton of pixel ads during the baseball playoffs.

And that surprises you? The phone was announced 4 days ago.. If Google can reach mainstream America and gain brand recognition on par with devices that have had several years and billions of dollars poured into advertising that fast then holy smokin cannolis...

I'm not the one trying to claim that Pixel is somehow an established brand with recognition. Richard Servello is...

The problem with saying that Google is going to market this and build a lasting brand is that there is so much overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Allo vs. Duo vs. Spaces vs
Google Talk vs. Hangouts vs. Google Messenger
Google TV vs. Android TV vs. Chromecast
Google Video vs. YouTube
Google Play Music vs. YouTube Music
Google Dialer vs. Hangouts Dialer
Android vs. ChromeOS
Android Wear vs. Google Glass
Gmail vs. Google Wave
Google Wallet vs. Android Pay

Google does not stick with one brand and focus on it. They develop 2, 3, or more products in some kind of A/B experiment and then kill one. Repeat ad nauseum.

The latest absurdity? I launched the Google Cast app on my phone today and it said it is being rebranded as Google Home. Never mind that Google Home is already the name of their home automation system that the new announced competitor to Android Echo the Google Assistant connects to.

Google does not build brands. They are mad scientists constantly creating new stuff that does 60% of what the old stuff already does. Not only did Google let Android completely get out of their control, but Samsung went off and bought a payments company (now Samsung Pay) which beats Google Wallet / Android Pay in every measurable way. The Pixel phone doesn't solve any of those problems and will have a market penetration roughly at BlackBerry Priv levels.
