Well, I thought I would start a new thread since my renaming RUU thread was getting very long!

So, last night was on paper a bust, but in reality it was a good experience. No, I am not running ICS yet, but I got over my fear of my phone. I am fearless, well sort of, on my computers, but I'd had not yet crossed the great phone frontier. Now I am not afraid of trying things and only hope that the boys can figure out what I am doing from preventing my phone from finding and picking up that leak file. And even if the official OTA update does roll out during the week (which I highly doubt), I still want to crack this thing so that I can update without waiting for two giant companies to make another move.

The one plus to my failed attempt is that I was forced to do a factory reset and my phone is running quickly again. Factory resets do have their positive aspects. I noticed some of my apps are running better and I found a nice replacement app for Lookout Mobile Security.

I remember a rep at a Verizon store (a nice guy who is from my neighborhood) told me that he really disliked Lookout Mobile Security and that if there was something wrong with a phone, Lookout had something to do with it. The only reason I continued to use it was for the find phone feature.

So, I looked around and I found a pretty cool replacement app called Phone Locator Pro. Yeah, it is $5.20 but it has some neat features.

Anyway, I am going to get my phone back to normal (I am actually almost finished doing this) and then take some screen shots of my app drawer after I have decided really what apps I want and which ones I don't and when I have to customize again (either because my phone finally takes the ICS leak or it gets ticked off again and forces me to factory reset) I will know what I need to download.

Well, I hope you all have a great day. I look forward to working with the guys next weekend in hopes that we figure out what the heck is the problem. Thanks again to Mr. Smith for all his helpful tips and instructions and to Pizza Dude and Major Payne for being willing to spend time with me to get this ICS leak to work!! :D

Had to be something simple like the file named wrong or in the wrong place on your card. Wish you could've gotten it working. Like you said, at least you got over your fear and now you know it's not so bad.

Good luck next week. I am sure it will workout just fine. I put ICS on yesterday and it is nice, especially disabling apps. Mr Smith will get you set up, best of luck.

I ran into the issue that as long as I put it on my phone from my computer and tried, it wouldn't work. I put it on my SD card from my computer than I just moved it with a file manager. It worked after that point.

If the OTA doesnt come out this week, you, me, oovoo. Done. we will Have you on ICS in no time.

I am glad you are over the "worry" of flashing even though we failed...I just wish I could have given you all the attention I thought I could...

Pizzadude ... You're awesome! YES ... by next week on this day I will have ICS, if not sooner (by a possible OTA).

But even if I get the OTA, when Jelly Bean comes out in a leak, I want to do it because I want to learn how to have control over my own phone!!

Yeah it really is sorta liberating. At least you didn't have the same experience as my first shot at flashing.

I was all cocky because I am mr. IT guy around... Hardware, software... Doesn't matter I can do it. Bricked my first smartphone within an hour of getting it.

Ran crying to best buy like a little baby to get it replaced (honest, mr. Best buy, I bought it this morning and I have no idea what happened to it.)

Found out a month later, when I got the courage to even look at these forums again, that it was a soft brick and if I would have read the OP entirely, I could have fixed it in five minutes.

This is how I learned to research everything before doing anything and to read the WHOLE post.....

I have phone locator pro, mobiucare Norton anti theft, Google latitude, gotcha, all installed. I had an epic 4g it was stolen mobiucare did not work, would not track, sent email to mobiucare and no response since October. I remotely installed plan b from lookout and told police the address and they said it's not accurate as they can be off so we can't knock on their door of that address.

Don't believe your local Verizon guy about Lookout.

My first foray into Android, I was having a problem with some app icons not loading on the home screens on power on or restart. Local Verizon guy said it was Lookout. That Lookout was a known problem causer on Android. I removed Lookout. Problem persisted. It actually was caused by putting apps on the SD card.

I run Lookout on GB, HC and ICS with no issues.

If I remember right Lookout did have some serious issues early on, I guess the reputation just stuck with them. Never used it myself...

Oh no ... LOL! What a story. Thanks for sharing!!

Oh no ... LOL! What a story. Thanks for sharing!!

Over the past few months I've had literally dozens of people on my gtalk, some have issue, some won't read my guide(s), and some just need to be straightened out a bit. The base issue is usually that if they took the time to read through these posts, they'd realize that they missed a step or just flat out weren't doing the right thing.

That's why I always say start with the guide and let us play fill-in the blanks. It's easier on everyone to not have to duplicate work. Especially the person doing the flashing. It makes everything less confusing.

90 percent of the time when I'm on here I'm actually at work in my office. When i'm not here i'm usually at home so Skater I think between all 3 of us we will get it working... I'm thinking you had the file named wrong. I think is was the ph98img.zip.zip issue... I'm almost certian.. and Yes i was exactly like Piizzadude. Mr IT guy who makes linux web servers run circles yet was so timid about flashing and then went gung ho right into it that i forgot to copy the file onto the SD card before I locked the boot loader and since i was still running Cleanrom it didn't allow me to boot.. that was an experince. what made it worse was my wife was in vegas and we don't have a house phone lol

I am sure I did not see the double zip, but this is why Oovooing will be good because you guys will be able to actually see my phone.

Oh ... and yes, another good story. Sorry that you didn't have another phone when your wife was in Vegas! :)
