I owned an HTC EVO 4G LTE Sprint smartphone and was pretty happy with it. Everything about it was great (size, speed, battery life, etc.) and the reviews I read about the new HTC One were good, but nothing really made me want to spend the money to upgrade to the new One. I still had about 10 months before my next upgrade, so the advertised improvements weren't enough for me to pay for an early upgrade.
However, I was totally annoyed at the slow 3G speeds that Sprint had in the Seattle area, while Verizon and AT&T had good LTE coverage. Sprint claimed to be improving the situation and told me, "by the end of the year Seattle will have LTE", but I just didn't believe them as they gave me that line last year. As such, I decided to pay the ETF and cancel my Sprint line and go with AT&T (which was boasting to have excellent and super fast LTE coverage in Seattle). Since I was leaving Sprint, I needed to get a new phone so I opted for the HTC One, and boy am I happy I did that!
Aside from the super fast 4G LTE speeds which AT&T has throughout the Greater Seattle area, the HTC One is a fantastic phone. Most notably is the high resolution screen, which was much better than my HTC EVO LTE (which at the time I thought was good). Very much reminded me when I first saw an iPhone 4 with the Retina display. Super clear, bright, and crisp. It's great to have such a hi-res screen for everyday use. The One is one finely constructed device, like an old-style craftsman watch. The OS runs great and quick, and the battery life is phenomenal for me (after my typical work day of 9 hours, I still have 76% battery life left!).
I'm definitely happy I switched to AT&T and got the HTC One phone, and it was worth paying the ETF (which I'll offset by sending my EVO LTE into HTC for the $100 trade-up offer). If you're curious or on the fence deciding, just visit your local cell store and check one out... I think you'll be amazed!
