Goodbye Android (nexus 5) hello iPhone

But the OP didn't need to start a thread saying essentially "goodbye suckahs!" Just go to your iMore friends and say Hi instead.

I actually introduced myself over at imore. This wasn't a "screw you" to you guys over at android central by any means, it's more of a farewell. I'm not leaving forever, I'll still be around. I started this thread to let people know I was leaving and to thank them for helping me during my time with android. I wanted to show my gratitude to the wonderful people on this site

I think it is just simpler, and simpler is more intuitive.

Exactly. I liked being able to tinker on android for the first few months. As I soon found out though, I had to change everything myself. I was left doing a job which should be for the manufacturer. I realized yesterday that I kept trying to replicate my old iPhone. I could never get it right either, especially sound. I could get it to go loud, but then there would be a louder noise floor. When I softened it out, the volume sucked. I could never get anything about the phone to my liking. Gamma is another example. so, that's why I'm leaving. I'm willing to let apple take charge because they do it right in my opinion.

Not in my opinion since Apple is the lowest quality phone I have every had with three out of four breaking in 15 months. Never had any cell phone break before I got a Apple or since. As far as I am concerned Apple stole at least $150 from me for a phone that didn't last more than 45 days before it broke and then wanted another $150 to replace it. Apple is a rip off that uses Bling bling marketing to sell a over priced phone. Apple sells one size fits all with a tiny screen and missing so many features my Nexus 5 has that the over priced fruit company doesn't have. Apple is a walled garden with proprietary everything so they can over charge for everything and tries to sue every other phone manufacture out of business. I will never give apple one penny of my money again.

Maybe it's you, the user, who is responsible for breaking your phone.

I have a couple of iPads, and my wife uses the iPhone. I like the idevices and find them well-built and nice looking. One thing that amazed me was how quickly my wife took a liking to her iPhone. Somehow, it was simply more intuitive to her than her former android phone. I must admit that I don't fully understand why iOS is more intuitive to some than is android, but it was certainly true for her. In general, I would recommend an iPhone to those who don't find enjoyment tinkering with, and exploring, gadgets. I recommend android to those who do, or otherwise have a need that apple cannot fulfill, such as screen size or widgets.

I could use an iPhone if I had to and be pretty satisfied. They are easy enough to use but no more so than android for me. My own experience is that they are no more or less easy to use or likely to fail. They look nice enough and feel good, but by the time I put a case on the phone, this factor become irrelevant for me.

Like most around here, I prefer the options and flexibility of android to any perceived benefit of simplicity or reliability of the apple device.

But, I

I have to say that since jellybean, I have found Android to just as intuitive and easy to use as an iPhone.

Hey, I didn't call anybody in this thread names. I'm trying to be nice and so far I have been. You have no right to bash my personal decision, just like I have no right to bash yours. Just because I'm switching to ios doesn't make me an "isheep".

This is still an obvious troll topic. Being as you are an iPhone fan, did you actually own a Nexus 5? Your post is filled with generic iSheep vomit points about why iPhone is better. If you wanted to be more realistic, you could have not used a vomit point.

Clearly, you never where going to give android a fair shot, if you ever owned a Nexus 5 at all.

1/10 troll topic.

Can we please stop with the name calling and hostility? Please be respectful to other members. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, and everybody has their own personal preference. So please, respect that.

Is this enough proof? This isn't a troll topic

Opinions are like A-holes, everyone has one. But an opinion that is in direct contradiction to ascertainable facts, is just ignorant.

Take at look at specs - nothing junk about iPhones and to say they are junk is ridiculous. But they are locked down and do have a smaller screen but it is a great small screen, has a great camera, and works great as a phone. Yet I prefer android. I can do what I want with it and can get a phone with a big screen.

Well as you say Opinions are like A-holes so welcome to the party. I was ripped off by the fruit company and I will sing it loud. I spent over 30 hours in there stores over a two month period exchanging broken phones and them stealing my money trying to get satisfaction in the Fruit Store. Not only is Apple junk that breaks to much their Apple Customer service is worst than a Department of Motor Vehicles. They have the most Arrogant employees in the store that thinks selling you a new Phone and locking you into a new 2 year contract is how you fix bad phones. Apple is too arrogant in their walled garden that think that their isheep shouldn't complain when they have a issue.

I had four i4's the one with the "Antennagate!" problems with the iPhone 4's reception. What did I get was a $15 plastic ring in the legal settlement. My i4 always had weak reception and I had lot's of dropped calls on AT&T. I have never had even one dropped call with my Nexus 5 even on an inexpensive service like Metro PCS. People never remember the Fruit company issues but I do since I lived them.

Apple settles class-action suit over iPhone 4 antenna problem

The culprit, it was ultimately determined, was the antenna, which is wrapped in a band around the phone's edge to help create its slim form. Using what became known as the "death grip," (i.e. holding the phone at a certain spot) caused reception to suffer or cut out entirely.

"This settlement relates to a small number of customers who indicated that they experienced antenna or reception issues with their iPhone 4, and didn't want to take advantage of a free case from Apple when it was being offered in 2010," Apple told CNET in a written statement.

However, Ira Rothken, a lead attorney in the case, said more than 21 million iPhone 4 owners were eligible for the payout.

Never dropped or got one of my i4 wet. Also, Apple junk phone would also break my Windows PC every time I connected that iPhone into my Laptop to update and back up. ITunes would disabled by PC's microphones and DVD player permanently. I have never owned a worst phone than a Apple and had worst customer service than with the Fruit Company. Every time I plunged in my i4 to my HP laptop I had to pay a guy in our IT dept to fix my DVD player and microphone.

Check out this proof of iTune disable my DVD and microphone.
Not once not twice but every time I connected my i4 to my HP laptop I had to pay a guy $20 in the IT dept to fix my HP laptop all because iTunes at the time was the only way to update and backup my iPhone. Apple looked for new ways to steal my money and break my windows PC in the process.

iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters

Symptoms

CD and DVD software include Windows system software called device filters. Device filters are used to communicate with the CD or DVD hardware on your computer. iTunes installs these filters to import and burn CDs or DVDs.

Device filters not manufactured by Apple ("third-party") can conflict with iTunes for Windows. This can cause such issues as:

iTunes does not detect any supported CD burners.
iTunes does not recognize audio CDs.
Windows does not recognize audio CDs after installing iTunes.
You receive alert messages while attempting to burn discs.

Folks,

I've read enough of this back and forth bickering in this thread. Its amazing the lengths people will go to continue these back and forth insults, trolling and petty explanations of how their comments should be interpreted.

If this thread or someones comments isn't for you its simple, either leave the thread or stay but don't respond if your going to just add fuel to the fire.

Further insults, trolling, etc. will be handled appropriately. This I never like to do :(

Enjoy the rest of your weekend,

Just my experience, I am not wedded to any brand names, be it phones or computers or cars or clothes or even sports teams.

Last year, I spent a month in Turkey. No computer, but I had my iPod Touch and an Android phone, HTC (TMO) MyTouch 4G (8gb). I actually had two of the same phone, using one to charge battery. Totally stock devices, it never crossed my mind to unlock and/or modify them. There is wifi widely available in Turkey, and mobile signal virtually everywhere. I had a Turkish SIM and a data package for the phone. When I had wifi, I used the iPod, without wifi, I used the phone.

Every day, sometimes several times a day, I switched devices. So I got to really experience using the two different systems. The experience colored my recent decision to buy either a Nexus 5 or an iPhone 5S. I liked the Android experience slightly better than the Apple experience, and much of that was the keyboard, I think, SwiftKey. But I realized I looked forward to using the phone more than the iPod.

I have a MacBook Pro and a couple of iPods, my wife has an iPad Air, so that pulled me toward Apple.

The price, well, no doubt that the Nexus 5 32gb at $399 was more attractive than the 32gb iPhone 5S at $749.

Close friends and family are mostly on iPhone. I totally understand the attraction to the elegance and simplicity. The Apple ecosystem is very seductive. It's complete, it's well designed, the devices just feel great in my hands.

But I went with the Nexus 5, Black, 32gb. With much misgiving, I downloaded SDK, and learned about ADB and fastboot, screwed up my courage and with help and encouragement from the Android community, I sideloaded the 4.4.2 update when I got tired of waiting.

Now my bootloader is unlocked, I am rooted, and have flashed the latest stable Cataclysm ROM. There is a vast landscape opening up for me, and I could not be happier with my choice. It's just the right thing for me, that's all.

I probably would have been just as pleased had I shelled out twice the money for an iPhone.

Not really...

No. Shilo made a case for a specific flaw in a specific Apple product - namely the iPhone 4's antenna issue that Apple had to settle a class action lawsuit over. That is clearly an example of a bad Apple product. You don't just get to tell people to shut up when they present clear evidence in support of their opinion.

Yes, but how does it add relevance to this thread? He's just rambling on about his apple experience trying to make them look bad. I wouldn't care if it had a reason, but it doesn't. He's just trying to stir up a war citing issues. I can do the same with android.

I liked some parts of Android and I didn't like some other parts. I didn't like how most of the manufacturers didn't get quality down or didn't tune something properly.
That's my problem. Specifically:
  • Manufacturers wrenching on Android, bloating it, then failing to issue updates
  • Google (Play) Services going wonky and killing runtime
I have a Vizio VTAB1008, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and HTC Sensation 4G--obtained in that order. Vizio locked-down their tablet and ceased updating it, Samsung turns out one bloated, bug- and security-hole-ridden version after the other, and HTC, after releasing 4.0.3 (and breaking hands-free dialing in the process), appears to have dropped updates.

They all work, after a fashion, but none of them are "great." Well, except the tablet. That's great, but only because I replaced Samsung's crap firmware with CWM and CM. Hardly something you can expect the average end-user to do. (Plus: Cyanogen seems to have lost its way following its having gone "commercial," recently.)

I would never move to the iUniverse, because I simply don't care for Apple or Apple's iStuff. And I'd rather a sharp stick in the eye than anything Microsoft. But I don't much care for Android, and I don't much like Google, these days. I'm hoping Ubuntu's new mobile OS works out. If it does: I'll drop Android in a flash.

So I guess my point is: I can't blame you for having moved back to the iWorld. I feel Google, and Android's OEMs and the wireless carriers, are dropping the ball big-time.

You know im surprised that no ones found a way to run iOS on a android phone. I mean you can run windows OS on a mac.

Some might say that is exactly what you did when you started this thread. It can be said that since you brought up in your original post how "smooth" the experience with iOS is, one's experience that was rocky would seem to be relevant.

These kinds of threads inevitably turn into Apple vs. Google and/or iOS vs Android back-and-forths. That is entirely predictable.

I think it is just simpler, and simpler is more intuitive.

Perhaps that is allthere is to it. Flexibility does add a layer of complexity that may not be of any value to those who are happy with the way a manufacturer does things. But I have always found the options and complexity of android relatively hidden if you cared not to exploit it.

Like others have mentioned, my wife was less than thrilled with the iOS 7 change.

I'm not a huge fan of any of them really, I just pick the best one that fits my needs. I like the look of Ubuntu as well, if it's good I'll definitely use it
