I had endless problems when I tried to sync outlook between home pc & work pc through my windows mobile device. Burps, hiccups, dups, it was terrible.

Finally I created a separate account on my exchange server at work and it has been flawless, and worked great with my iphone, and now perfectly with my evo.

If you don't have access to one at work, you can pay $8 or $10/month for an account on a cloud based hosted exchange.

I know paying is bad, but it works soo well !!

I switched back to my Treo today. The Evo surpassed it in every way except ONE and that one was being able to sync to Outlook (NOT GOOGLE) calendar. HTC sync didn't work (they even escalated my support ticket and then never called back). Tried solution after solution. It just got too frustrating spending HOURS AND HOURS in forums and trying all solutions suggested, mostly finding many others who could NEVER get it working either. Tried some 3rd party stuff that had errors also.

My wife had a Pre from the beginning and the reason I never got one was that there was no sync with Outlook. I read about the Evo and HTC Sync and thought this was the answer to my problems!!! Oh, well.....

I really liked this except for the ONE thing i needed!!!!!

I wish I could follow your reasoning.

Why would you give up a phone that's latest tech and go back to a discontinued phone made by a company that doesn't exist anymore than runs an Operating system that will not get updates ever again only to be able to sync with Outlook (local application) when the rest of the world is moving to Cloud services?????

What's next? you're going to give up your car and go back to a horse drawn buggy?

Good luck to you Tromba. Sometimes we have to find a phone that fits our particular needs. It's unfortunate that the Evo didn't do that for you. Wish we could offer you a better solution.

And I'll apologize for Gekko... Even though he may scorn me for doing so. Sometimes he can be really brash... But in the end he really is just trying to help. He's found solutions for me before.

Agreed, even after 3 months this is still my dream phone. Any gripes I had were fixed the second I rooted and found CM6.

I don't see what the big deal isgere. I sync with outlook no problem using google calendar sync to sync outlook with google calendar, then push google calender to my phone. Not a work around, and get to use google calendar as well. Life is good.

Sorry to hear that. Personally I gave up on Outlook about a decade ago because of the constant security issues and utterly unbelievable bloat. What do you use for your calendaring and email provider?

Outlook is a wonderful tool - and if anyone has not used it since 2007 or the latest 2010 version, you are missing out if you use an email client. I live in Outlook - 2 Exchange accounts, 2 IMAP accounts and 2 POP accounts. I personally hate web-based email interfaces - but that's just me.

With that said, Outlook is pretty worthless without an Exchange solution, IMO. If you really depend on Outlook for your business - or even a part-time job - then you need to hook it up to Exchange. You can find services for ~$10/mo. It would be worth that much to me to not have to use a Treo again.

He must have some settings wrong or corrupted files. The latest version of HTC Sync has worked flawlessly for me on two Win 7 Prof tablets running Outlook 2010.

I would never recommend google sync to any business user. I have tested it so many times and after losing appts and contacts or getting large amounts of duplicates I decided my time was more important than helping Google get their software right.

Certainly Exchange is the way to go if you have access to or can afford a 3rd party solution, but there are many that don't. This is the very reason I didn't even glance at the Epic, no sync solution (companionlink is crap).

I have setup HTC Sync for several other people. I don't understand why it is not working for you?

There are TONS of options out there. No mention of missing sync, no mention of OMA, hasn't tried exchange which, anyone who depends on outlook as much as the OP says he does, exchange is an absolute must. Hell, someone already posted that they personally sell exchange hosting.

These posts of "my phone restarted last night for no reason so im switching to iphone" type posts are getting old. I encourage anyone and everyone to properly research phones and use the phone that best suits your needs but posting something like this doesn't help anyone. Either A) ask for help or B) just leave and switch phones. No need for the exit music.

All threads like this should just be locked down as soon as they are posted. As stated above why go out looking for some kind of response when you have all ready made up your mind for one reason or another.... Nothing wrong with switching phones if your unhappy.... But keep it to yourself...

I I initially had problems at first with the initial synch using HTC Synch. A computer reboot and a phone reboot later, it was working fine. It probably is some add on you have with Outlook, or you didn't install HTC Synch with your anti virus off.

I guess different people have different experiences because I would absolutely run google sync for business. In fact I DO run GS to sync my work and gmail calendars. It has worked flawlessly on both my old WM phones and my new Evo. I depend on GS, and it hasnt let me down.

There is a program that can sync Outlook to a Google act.
Getting started with Google Calendar Sync - Google Calendar Help

I would create a Google act (You could only use it for the phone) and use that to keep your outlook and Google act synced. This works for calendar as well.

Then just set that Google act active on the phone. Easy and it will work 100%.

The only negative at all is you need to run this on a computer that is setup to connect to your outlook act and it has to be turned on often so it can sync. Other than that there is no negative at all.

Change is difficult for anyone...

HTC Sync was working for me (on the Hero) until an upgrade killed it.
I too had qualms about switching over to Evo without a firm sync'ing solution between Outlook, Google, and Phone.

I read hit-and-miss articles concerning CompanionLink.
I found gSyncIt.
It syncs everything between Outlook and Google (then to your phone).
It's constantly being updated! $15!

I too don't like the web-based calendar or contact solution of Google.
I still enjoy Outlook but don't have Exchange....
