Goodbye Pre, Hello EVO

I just switched from a Pre, too. About to put it (along with 2 touchstones and an extra battery) on ebay and craigslist. No regrets switching, at all. Lovin' the EVO!!

Add another.

Was on my second Pre after the launch day one had a stuck power button in October so they just swapped it out. Second one had a blown speaker so it was OK but useless for speakerphone.

The Sunday before the Evo launched the phone decided to erase itself so it blew away all the homebrew apps and tweaks and i just said, "fitting." So I went about a week on a near stock Pre and it was just weird.

Had a good run with the Pre but it was time.

I'm on my 4th Pre, due to all the returns. It's still sitting around collecting dust, or relegated to pretty much taking videos of the Evo and uploading it.

I rather miss my Pre in some ways. I still find myself wishing I would swipe up, or swipe back. The gestures are just so full of win.

I think I might try to sell it. Not sure.

I got a Pre on launch day. A lot of great ideas went into the GUI, but the hardware sux... everyone seems to be on their 3rd or 4th Pre (I got my 3rd on Evo launch day due to a busted power button). The only thing I miss about the Pre is that it was so small I could easily touch any part of the screen with the same hand with which I held it.

For me, I was on my second PRE, but I was a die hard Palm fan. So nothing could take me away, then came the missed calls, resets, not turning on, & the crack by the usb. Went by Sprint to see what they can do & said call the insurance, but it was a defective phone why would I pay another $100? Then the Sprint rep said take a look at the EVO, were out & 30 people on the list, but we should get some in soon. I said no, so she'll call me later when the manager would be in to decide what to do. 2 hrs later she calls, I just got 1 EVO in right now if you also buy the gel case & car charger its yours. I said fine, there I go. Been really happy since..and yes it was the only one, while they were setting it up 2 people came in asking if the EVO was back in stock.

I really enjoyed my Pre while I had it and only had the one. I had few issues with the Pre. I think WebOS rocks, but the it was the hardware that was lacking. It was a sad parting for me to switch to the EVO.

The transition was not totally painless and now that we are getting close to a month, I am finally starting to get comfortable with my new EVO.

Sold the Pre yesterday, so I am fully committed to Android... Well for at least a year... ;)

The Evo has been everything I had wished my Pre was going to be.
Its so nice not to patch the hell out of my phone to make it what it should have been out of the box. Then to have to deal with issues with patches everytime there was an OS update.
You name it and I have it as far as Moible OS's and by far, this is my my favorite OS.

I am a previous palm pre owner also and I do love my evo. I still think there is hope for the webos to return if they have a better device that opens apps quicker, but for now I'm happy with my evo

Yet another Pre abandoner here. I was on the fence during the last week of my 30 days about whether to keep it or not. I decided it was cool enough to hang out to and with the homebrew patches, each day, my phone could do something that it SHOULD have done out of the box like LED notification of missed calls. Seriously, how do you overlook that? That phone was clearly a hail-mary thrown by Palm/Sprint because they were both on their way out. I regretted my decision to keep the Pre about 3 months after getting it, mainly due to the phone feeling like it was going to break in 3 pieces at any minute. The phone only lasted 10 months; power button stopped pressing. Went back to the ol' trusty BB pearl 8130. You could fire a cannon at that thing and it will still run.

Anyways, got lucky and ordered one of the last EVO's in stock on July 1. This phone is simply amazing. It does everything I want and it plays my .wma files too! (damn you micro$oft)

I have had only two issues with my EVO so far:

1) There is no LED notification for a missed msg/call/text while it's charging. One thing the Pre did have was a patch to fix everything, will the EVO have this or is there a setting I'm missing?

2) Twice now, when my screen brightness is turned all the way dim via the Power Control widget, while I'm surfing the web, the screen just turns off, I believe just the backlight turns off, my menu buttons still are lit and if I press things on the screen, when I cycle the power button to go to standby and back out, the phone will have gone to the link that I blindly touched on the dark screen. I am plugged in while this happens, hasn't happened while on battery. Anyone else with same issue? And its not the screen timing out because I have it set at 2 minutes and this will happen while actively surfing the web.

I'm a pre-pre convert. :) I'm still on the waiting list for my EVO. I am having all the same issues you are and they led me to ditch the thing. I loved the OS but the hardware seemed to be an afterthought.

Cant' wait for my EVO!

Moved from PalmOS > WM > WebOS > Android...no regrets at all with Android. This is the most stable and functional combination of telephony and mobile computing I have used so far. The only app I miss here is Pocket Quicken; I already have found suitable (sometimes better) alternatives for everything else I used.

Enjoyed WebOS for it's brilliant UI and it's enormous potential as a viable mobile OS. Unfortunately, it was released by Palm in what amounts to a beta-version, and on flimsy/flawed hardware design.

Do I miss WebOS, some of the UI aspects of it I do, but for the most part I really like Android and would not trade it for anything else at this point.

So one more for your stats.

I use my Pre as backup.

The only bad thing about it is the hardware and lack of apps.
Otherwise, the UI was brilliant.

So right!! I had the pre + on AT&T but took it back and ported over to Sprint for the EVO and haven't looked back! The UI was amazing!!! The hardware could have used a new design.

Potential PRE to EVO here... just waiting for my stupid UPGRADE date to expire so i can jump on the EVO. Same here my PRE power button got stuck it is a great WEBOS UI which im sure I will miss... cant wait to try out the EVO good luck all !!

haha i jumped shipped too loved my pre to death had june 6th 2009 pre still love it but evo was to tempting amazing hardware and android turned out to be quite a pleasant suprise as well haha i owe everyone an apology for previous bad android thoughts from my previous life it was the palm fanboy in me coming out XD

Pre to EVO here too. I really miss WebOS, but I don't miss the 30 patches I had to do to it to make it function the way my Android does. WebOS truely was in Beta and the hardware form factor was great but flimsy and slow. I still can't believe how fast the EVO is. No lag when scrolling through web pages, aps, etc.

I didn't think the Pre was too bad, I had 3 the first one I returned after 3 days for the lose slider. The second was pretty good and I had that most of the time but in the end it started to reboot once or twice a day. I returned because I though my wife wanted it so I got her a refurb, that one is now in the closet. It was my first smart phone and will always think of it.(just kidding)

i also jumped from the pre. if i could put webOS on my evo, and keep the widgets i would be sooo happy. I hope people out in palm land are listening.

webOS ROCKS! pre SUCKS!

Mine was fine for like 6 months. then disaster. the power button broke, and i had to replace it every 3-5 weeks for 6 months. Stupid minor problems. speaker stopped, stopped charging, another power button...random resets. and then finally a clean wipe, and my palm profile went missing....i lost it.

So i have an evo. and i like it.

i miss cards, i miss gestures, i miss the keyboard, and most of all i miss the alert system.
