Google and contacts

I think it sucks that Google even has access to your contacts let alone controls them via SYNC to a "cloud". Second day I had my phone, all I wanted was a stop watch program. Opened up Gmail account went to market place found what I wanted. Next thing I knew, I lost 90% of my contacts. If I would of known that google was going to grab my contacts I would of back them up before hand and maybe thought twice about even opening an account. What do they want with my "our" contacts anyway? Think about it. I don't mind having to open an account on gmail but leave my contacts alone. They're my contacts not yours!!!
