Google App Mini Popups?

Recently, when I open the Google app (not Chrome, the android Google app) I get a little floating popup that refers to recent searches, like it might say Search Connecticutt Lottery or Search recombinant DNA or whatever topic I have looked up on more than one occasion.

The floating popup might be about 1 inch by 1/2 inch in size. I assume it would repeat the search if I click on it, but I never would.

Have you seen this? Anyone know how to get rid of it?

It only pops up when I first turn on Google for the day or perhaps after several hours but I'll never be able to get a screenshot in time.

Thanks!

I tried it on an iPhone, and got that short-lived Recent Search suggestion. On an Android, nothing.

I can’t see any obvious way of turning it off in the app’s settings.

It's an interesting observation because mine is on the s22 ultra but i was signed in to google on my wife's ipad and it was her searches i got the popups for. I have since deleted all her searches and signed out of chrome, google, and gmaps on her ipad but i still get the popups. They aren't her searches any longer but i sill have it.

Apple code invading Android somehow?

I don’t understand it. A Recent Search, made on an iPhone, just popped up on another iPhone, but not on an Android - despite that search showing in the Search History on the Android.

On iphone is it called a search focus? I read that jargon on reddit.
If it is, I’m not aware of that. There is a Focus feature but I don’t use it. This is what the pop-up looks like - presumably similar to what you see:

Exactly it! I've been trying to get a screenshot, but it won't do it until the thing disappears.

At least I know now it probably isn't malware but it is very weird how it is in my phone and nobody else here has commented about it.

No, I've never even opened it. It all started when I logged in to Google on an ipad. Then the Google ipad searches began showing up on this popup. I signed out of all the google apps and deleted the searches made from ipad google on ipad, but now my searches on s22u show up on the little popup.

I don't know what it's called nor how to get rid of it, nor even if it is a legit part of Google.

I tried clearing cache in google on s22u and clearing cache on phone but cannot get rid of it.

I did as you suggested. Clicking force stop didn't seem to do anything though. It warned it would cause issues so I clicked it again after clearing cache and data. Then I clicked into Google but my search history was still there so if it repopulated it did it fast.

I won't know for hours whether it worked because the popup only shows up after i don't use Google over night or at least for several hours. I should know by tomorrow.

Do you think it is malware?

And as always thanks very much for your help!

Some people might even like it if we knew the way to turn it on and off. It appears to be a feature of Google on an ipad downloaded from apple app store. Why it migrated to my phone I'll be darned if I know.

Sorry to say the popup is back. It disappears after a few seconds then it doesn't come back until I stop using Google for at least an hour.

The only thing I can say if I bump into I'll be sure to respond here otherwise check settings in the app for anything that relates to that.
