Android Central Question

My phone does only listen to a headset. The in built mic is fine. Calling and recording audio is ok.

But google maps, translate or the assistant won't listen to the mic. Some suggestions?

Welcome to Android Central! Is the phone still connected to the headset? If it's a Bluetooth headset try temporarily disconnecting it (or turning off Bluetooth) and see if Google Assistant responds.

Also, make sure Google Assistant's Voice Match is set up correctly.

Hello. Thanks for your reply.
It is a wired headset. As long it is connected to the phone, it works perfect. Hello Google, or in google maps and so on. After I disconnect the headset, Google doesn't hear anything. At least there isn't any reaction. I uninstalled the update of the google app and deleted its cache and rebooted the phone. But the issue is still there.
I can voice match only with headset set up.
Kinda weird.

When you try to set up Voice Match without the headset plugged in, does it just not let you start, or does it wait forever for you to say "Ok Google" and doesn't seem to hear you?

If you record a video using the Camera app and listen to the playback, are both stereo channels equal, or is one side silent?

When I do set up the voice match without the headset plugged in, it waits forever.
I just record an video with the camera app. Yes, sound is clear. To check the stereo channels I had to connect the headset. Booth channels are equal loud.

Hmm. Which phone do you have? Does this also happen in Safe Mode? If so, I'd also suggest a cache partition wipe (if possible on your phone).

I think I can only delete cache app by app. I use oreo 8.1. A cache partition isn't there anymore. I know there are apps which are able to delete the cache. Somehow I don't trust those apps. Unless you suggest a particular one.

Scratching my head here.:-\ Go to Settings>Apps, select Google, and then Permissions -- does it have Microphone permission turned on?

Yes. I turned it off and on again. Checked again Google account settings. I wonder if I miss an app.

I compared the settings to my old Samsung phone and they are identical. Actually, Google voice typing was disabled on the other phone in language and input settings, even though it works anyway...

Sorry, but I'm out of ideas. I wonder if it's a Xiaomi issue -- if you'd like I could move this to the Xiaomi forum, where it might get noticed more easily by other Xiaomi users who are familiar with the problem.

Thank you very much for your help. Much appreciate it. I'll wait for a Google app update. Who knows, maybe it will solve it by itself...

Hey, hope you don't mind -- I simply merged your threads and kept it in the Xiaomi forum. Wanted to avoid duplicate threads, which can lead to the confusion of parallel discussions.

Just used the app SoundHound to identify a song and figured out that this app listen to 'OK Hound' wich works perfectly with the inbuilt mic.

I really wonder why Google won't work.
