Google assistant

I realize this post is for another device but I have a Nexus 6P unrooted and am running the latest beta versions of the Google app and Play services. I still do not have the Assistant either.

The only devices that have the Assistant in my house are 2 old phones running custom firmware based on Nougat 7.1.1.

As far as I know, reading various comment threads and from personal experience with multiple phones running Marshmallow and stock Nougat, it should be a staggered rollout and may also be a server-side thing.

That's precisely what it will be. First, pretty much everyone has a Google App that supports Google Asst... it's been in the Google App for months now. The next step is for them to push out an update to Google Play Services that fully implements the changes to their phone in a more integrated manner.

Now, when GPS gets updated, Google should also be toggling the Google Asst. on your account on their end, which will then trigger GPS to then prompt the user if they want to use it or not.

While staged rollouts can be frustrating, they serve a purpose. Google can have gone through a rather exhaustive series of tests on their end, but there is nothing that can replicate a feature that has been pushed to a wide audience. So they roll it out in a series of waves, allowing them to address any issues that may pop up while limiting user impact. Just gotta be patient.

Does anyone know, pixel owners perhaps, if the assistant can be interacted with without touching the phone first to wake it up? Much handier that way and was hoping the assistant had this feature like apple's siri.

Yes. You can set it up like you could Google Now and say "OK Google" to activate it.

Doesn't really bother me that I don't have it. But I find it curious that almost nobody on AC or XDA has it. Doesn't really seem like it has even rolled out.

Apparently a lot of Samsungs do.. Maybe they're just rolling it out by manufacturer.
