Google Assistant

I've never used Google assistant since it showed up on the G5. I'm used to pressing the home button. Ok Google. then speaking (my question or whatever I need help with) and Google finds it. Is assistant basically the same thing ? Can somebody give my the basics of Google assistant and maybe give me the cons of Google assistant. Thanks.

Assistant ties into your smart home very well. Its kind of a one stop shop for everything. You hold the home button, or you can set "ok google" recognition so you can access it anywhere, and ask or tell it what to do. Google now was more of an information portal whereas assistant is a command portal.

Open assistant and ask what it can do. It will give you a brief idea of whats available. Where it shines is with smart home devices such as thermostats, lights, music control etc.
