Google Backup with multiple devices

If you have multiple android devices (like a tablet and phone) that use the same google login, I am wondering how that affects the backup of app data and the apps to install (My Apps).

Is that tied to the google account and the same data/apps will be restored regardless of the device?

I am getting a new phone next week and wanted some clarification as to whether I should restore or not. I don't want all my tablet apps/data restored to my phone.

Your question had not occurred to me until Google backup restored all my table stuff to my new smartphone....big mess!

So I don't believe Google backup can distingiush between devices.
