Google bans Huawei:Are you worried?

I'm waiitng for the Samsung 5G launch in Canada....then out with the old ..in with the new. I'm an early adopter. Buhbye Huawei.

Ps✓ I do actually use quite a bit Google based apps like YouTube,Gmail,.chrome, maps, etc.
So for my personal usage, the cutoff of these services/apps wouldn't work for me.

You might want to watch that video -- Huawei uses a lot of US stuff and services so you can be affected.

By the looks of things there’s a nationalist sentiment in China where Apple is the sole target in retaliation. Can’t blame them for being patriotic, and I wouldn’t feel sorry for faceless Apple if it took another huge hit in China for its overpriced gear and the ridiculous decisions made by its confrontational US Government ._.

‘Innocent until proven guilty’...the US seems to have adopted an approach of ‘Do as I say, not as I do’ :(

As I said before, no doubt this will benefit Samsung, as it’s No. 1 competitor just took a huge hit. Apple might be relieved short term, but it might face repercussions.

If Android apps can run without tweaks on the Huawei OS, I don't see why non US developers won't sell their apps on a Huawei apps store.

I heard that developers pay more than half the selling price of their apps to Google.
What if Huawei charges less or non at all at the beginning? That would interest developers
Also developers do get banned from Google Play.

I also think that the Huawei apps store, unlike Google Play, will be available in China. This means a lot of potential buyers from China

But you're not considering the fact that some of the most popular apps are from the U.S.
If Huawei doesn't find a way to settle this their market will end up being China. A large market sure, but certainly not all that Huawei wanted. They have been bragging that they were going to dominate the world smartphone market.

What does this mean for me as a p20 pro user. I have over a year left if my contract with 02 can I claim compensation. My data will no longer be secure if there are no more updates.

Well, Huawei hasn't given me a security update in over six months so at some point you're on your own anyway.

Time will tell what really happens going forward. I mainly upgraded my phone for the camera alone, secondary for the battery life and lastly the 256 GB storage, as I use it heavily at work... (and the watch was a nice little bonus, limited as it is). The reception on this phone is better than my LG G6 as well.

The threads between here and XDA have been entertaining... and informative as well. I personally don't have the time or patience for politics, I'm about as politically neutral as a rock...they're all crooks and liars in my opinion.

Sweating and worrying about what could and couldn't happen won't accomplish much so that leaves me no choice but to continue using and enjoying my phone until the time comes to think otherwise.

While not quite the same, I spent a few years with a few webOS phones and know ALL about lack of support from developers. I don't imagine this will be much different.

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

As an American I'm ashamed of this countries tactics and the bullying by Trump using Hauwei as a political pawn in this trade game. Be best..... what a joke

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

Should i sell my mate 20 pro now?
I bought it last February at 830
If sell now I will get 520
What are your thoughts?

First off, a Huawei OS might work out fine in China, but it will never fly in most of the world, especially the United States. Microsoft poured BILLIONS into making Windows Phones and made them compatible with Windows computers and they couldn't get good developers or good apps and they couldn't get any major companies to back them up. For example, I just upgraded the stereo in my car. It offers Apple Car Play and Android Auto. I obviously use Android Auto. Do you actually think a car stereo in America is going to also offer "Huawei OS"? NEVER! People in the US don't even know what Huawei is! Huawei came to the US in 2012 to setup BroadBand service equipment and it was proven that spying could occur on the equipment. Huawei had this "Apology Tour" and welcomed reporters from 60 Minutes to come to China to visit Huawei. There were welcome 60 minutes signs all over the place, but when the reporters got to the actual entrance of the building, they were turned away. Huawei WAS headquartered in America for BroadBand. I think they were headquartered in Houston, Texas but after the government refused to deal with them, Huawei packed up and left. I don't think anyone is saying their cell phones are spying. America said in 2012 that Huawei's BROADBAND internet equipment was spying. That is why America is not using Huawei for the 5G Network in the USA. Nobody even knows who Huawei is in America. I own a Huawei Mate 20 Lite and I've had it for 3 weeks and I can still return it. I'm not a heavy phone user but I have to say the budget phone is amazing. Good display and good cameras. Overall a much better phone than my One Plus 6 which was more than double the cost! But my Huawei phone was released in 2018 and it still has OREO on it while people in China have Pie. And now Q is coming out and I feel like I bought a phone that'll never be upgraded. I think it is worth $250 and love the phone, but the software is already outdated. Google isn't the only company that Huawei depends on for their phones. We make chips for them as well. All of Huawei's servers to run their services use Windows Server and Intel server processors which both come from the United States. Huawei sells laptops now with Microsoft Windows, which is an American company. My point is, Huawei could be getting screwed much worse than they currently are. Premium apps will NOT be for sale on Huawei's App Store and I imagine everyone outside of China will be upset if China ditches Android.

I have to give it to the United States. I want my new Huawei phone to give me updates but they haven't been even before the ban. And in the next 90 days I'm most certain I won't get any updates either. The United States has been getting a raw deal from China for decades. China sends us tons of crap and buys nothing from us in return. I didn't figure the United States would have an angle on China, but Huawei is a great angle in my opinion and I'm upset because I have a Huawei phone. But Huawei needs to come clean, sit at the table, and make a real deal with Google and the United States. Everyone talks about how big Huawei is.....How big would Huawei be without Android? If they dump Android, they will become a phone that is only sold in China.

How often do you upgrade? If it's every two years or less, then I don't think it would necessarily be wise to sell it. Your apps will be okay and as far as security updates go Huawei does a lousy job of those anyway. JMO...

I always wait for those new update
I'm thinking about buying if not s9 or note 9

My P30 pro and M20 pro are on flea bay.

I have though just sprung for a matebook x on Amazon Warehouse. Amazing deal and quite happy updating windows manually if it comes to it.

Last February implies 2018 which is obviously false.

I vehemently agree with what Nathan Rich had said in this verry accurate YouTube clip. There's simply ZERO evidence against HUAWEI. What it seems like....is....the USA deflecting politically by creating all this drama to support its spying agenda....!!!!

There is definitely not simply ZERO evidence. How do you explain multiple US agencies and multiple other countries arriving at the same conclusions, including the pending criminal prosecution of their CFO, on Huawei's activities, if there is zero evidence?

The guy in the video said zero evidence approximately 100 times, yet ignores the issue of the criminal prosecution for all of the video except approximately 30 seconds where he simply dismisses it. If there is zero evidence, what exactly was presented to the Grand jury for each of the 23 criminal charges? What was in the briefing provided to the Canadian government?

Here's one of the basic rules of discourse. An argument based on hyperbole cannot be used to support any conclusion. Repeating zero evidence for 17 minutes, when there is in fact evidence, means that the foundational premise of this guy's claim is false. That means that even if his conclusion were found to be true, it would be accidental, because he has no logical foundation to proceed from.

We also then need to address bias. The presenter is clearly familiar with Chinese language and culture, meaning that they are more likely to present a view that is empathetic to that culture. That by itself is not problematic, but when combined with the foundation of falsehoods already addressed, it means that we perhaps have a clear motive for the dishonest discourse.

For the first half of the video, I kept trying to give the gentleman the benefit of the doubt. When he kept saying zero evidence, I tried to assume he was conflating the existence of evidence with the full public disclosure of all evidence. Once he started being dishonest though, the rest of the instances of zero evidence can't be viewed as anything other than being intentionally misleading.

I agree 100%, after seeing this and reviewing the information. True there wouldn't be criminal charges if there wasn't any evidence. Huawei did not play nice going against doing business with a sanctioned country.
