Google calendar in Samsung S8+ creates multiple entries

[Android Central Question]

My calendar is synced with my work Outlook exchange. For the past couple of weeks every time I create an appointment in my phone I get three or four duplicates in my Outlook calendar.
It's not happening if I create the appointment in Google calendar on my Galaxy tablet, which is similarly synced with my Outlook account.
But I don't always have my tablet with me, so need to be able fix this on my phone.
