Google calendar sync problems

I have upgraded to android v4.4.4 then tried to install the new calendar from Google. I receive a sync error "sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly". All other Google account related items sync properly, including contacts and mail. I have deleted the Google account and cleared cache & data & force stopped the apps, rebooted & reinstalled apps.

The apparent issue is that there is not a calendar sync item listed within the Google account. Even reinstalling the calendar and/or account does not seem to help.

Welcome to Android Central! Was this an official over-the-air system update? Is the device rooted? Did you install Google Calendar from the Play Store?

Thank you. It was an official update over the sir from AT&T, the device is not rooted, and I did install the Google calendar from Google Play.

There still isn't a calendar sync item in my android Google account.
Settings - General - Accounts - Google - Click on the email address - {no 'sync calendar' found}
