Google Camera ported to S10 (snapdragon)

Have you tried Night Sight (in More)? It's probably not as big a difference as it is on the Pixels (it can almost take a picture in total darkness), but take a few shots on a cloudy moonless night with no lights around.

Yes I have. It's very good and pretty close to the Pixel. I also have a Pixel 3 and have taken quite a few night shots. Actually the S10's camera app is quite good. I think by the time the S11 comes out they'll have pretty much caught up with the Pixel.

Is this version any different than the one they had a few months ago? Have they made any tweaks to make it work better on Samsung hardware?

Last time I tried it, I really didn't find the differences using Google's ported camera app were worth losing Samsung's native camera app features, nor did it seem to take better photos in most cases...and now the native app also has a night mode.

Ok, first of all you don't "lose" Samsung's features or camera app. The Samsung camera app is still there alongside the ported Google Camera app. Neither overlaps or replaces the other. You can alternate use as you see fit.

I don't know if this is the same one of several months ago, but from the date of the article, it looks like this version is from April. I just got back from a local park and took a series of 4 pictures with each app, using just the standard, rear camera. The Samsung photos are a little brighter. Honestly, I thought the difference was minimal. I have ported the Gcam to other phones such as the Galaxy S9+, LG V30 and Razer Phone 2 and have seen more dramatic results than on the S10. There's nothing to lose. If you don't like the results, you can simply uninstall the GCam and remove the configuration files. Now that Samsung has the night mode, I would say that if you're satisfied with the pictures you're getting from your S10, it may not be worth the trouble.

Sounds like it's the same app as before. And yes you're right of course, it's not like the Samsung camera app ever goes away - what I meant by that was most people are going to install this thinking of it as a replacement or "better" than the native Samsung app. Perhaps the Night Mode on the Pixel app may squeeze out a marginally better dark shot on a Samsung (I still think it's way better on Pixel hardware, mind you) but IMO the native Samsung app still does a better job overall.

The night mode is the only reason I have the gcam port. The pictures otherwise are fairly equal. The Samsung night mode is not as good.

I agree Samsungs Night Mode comes out darker and more pixelated in my experience.
