Google contact sync error

Just got my G2 last month. Came with 4.4.2 out of the box. I've rooted, installed TiBu.

Everything was syncing fine till the last couple days and now all of a sudden I'm getting a sync error for contacts "Sync is currently experiencing problems and will be back shortly". Tried all the usual stuff, delete account, re-install account, double check my contacts on the PC for any wierd looking or duplicate contacts. Still have the issue. All other sync items on the account are fine, just the contacts are affected. I think it started when I added a new contact via the phone and then the sync failed. Not positive on that though.

I used "Contacts Sync Fix" from the Google Play to temporarily fix it but I'm wondering why it happened in the first place. I froze all the AT&T bloat with TiBu. Is there any chance that's what caused it? I'd like to avoid having to do a hard reset if possible.

Any ideas?

TIA

What happens if you uncheck Contacts in Settings>Accounts-Google>[your Google Account], then check it again (which reinitiates the sync)?

Still returns the same error message.

I was reading some of the Google Play reviews for the Contact Sync Fix app from other G2 users. They mentioned that Google sync is having trouble dealing with the ICE contacts on the G2 as well as what they referred to as sync thinking there's a "fake account" caused by adding more than one Google account. I have two gmail accounts on the phone. Even removing the second account which has only gmail selected for sync doesn't work. Maybe it's the ICE contacts that's the problem. Not sure and I don't think there's a way to remove those ICE listings.

Funny thing is that when I first set up the phone, I added my primary gmail and it synced fine. Added my secondary gmail and it too synced. I also have the stock LG email app set up with an older Yahoo mail account that I have. I didn't see those ICE contacts listed at first. Either something changed that I don't know about, or the syncs that were happening "after" I initially set up the phone have been failing and I just didn't notice it.

I've never run into this issue before with my previous phones which all had the same accounts. Confusing? Still researching this and will post back what I find out. If all else fails I'll try a hard reset although I hate to have to do that because I finally have the phone set up how I like it.

TIA

Just in case anyone checks this thread I'm posting what I ended up doing to correct the contact sync error.

I ended up doing a factory reset. Then I added my main Gmail account back in. I still had the sync error. I removed the account and searched Google for the issue. I found some info about 2 step verification causing sync issues. So I disabled 2 step and also changed the password for that account. Added the main Gmail account back in and everything synced fine after that.

For my second Gmail account I used the stock mail app that comes on the G2 rather than adding it as another Gmail account through account settings. So far that account is working fine. I only use that account for mail and nothing else. I also use the youmail app for voice mail and call ditching. Wasn't sure if the contact linking option on youmail was causing the sync issue, but it works fine.

So everything is fine so far but a PITA having to hard reset and all. Still unsure what caused the problem to begin with though.

My issue is definitely caused by the ICE contacts. The sync error fix app confirmed it saying ICE is a fake group. The app removes my ICE contacts and then it syncs. But then it starts again stating ICE is the problem even though I have no contacts in that group. It's really odd.

I may have figured it out. ICE is a contact group on the phone. Since Google doesn't have that group, sync thinks it's a fake group when trying to sync Google contacts that are in it. I decided to add an identical ICE group in my Gmail contacts (named it exactly the same) and now I'm not getting the sync error. I'll see if this fix lasts.

I have the same problem
when i add a new contact, it's there for a few minutes and then, it's gone...!
and when i check saw the "sync is currently experiencing problems..." error!
so what should i do!?
i appreciate if anyone helps :-*

so I've been dealing with this issue for the longest time on my Samsung Note 3. I Tried everything on this thread and nothing worked. But I come with great news. Not only did i fix my issue, i know what caused it. For anyone that has Emojis in their contacts name, that is your problem. I was baffled by how stupid the reason behind causing this issue, but there you have it. Freakin' Emojis.....

hope this helps a lot of people!

I ran a free app called contact sync which everyone raved about which supposedly removed these Emojis (2), but contact still do not sync. How do I find Emojis's if there are any left?

I'm still battling this one. Been circumventing risk by backing up everything in my old phone syncing that... but I should not have to do so! Anyone found a final solution yet?

My husband and I both use an LG G3. We had the same problem with the contact sync. This was driving me crazy. I downloaded and ran the app Contact Sync Fix. This did the trick for both phones. Thank you for your input and expertise.

Hi Guys,
I generated a .vxf file to my google drive and downloaded it into my new android phone. I imported the contacts as .vxf file from my downloads. Installed it and got all my contacts back. I did not run the contacts sync fix or delete smilies.
