Google contacts

I can't get the birthdays of my contacts to sync over to the stock calendar app. If I save a contact to the phone directly, it works. However, when I save the contact as a Google contact, it won't show the bday on the calendar. I have my Google account linked to the calendar already, and I also have the contacts' birthday setting set to "ON". Any ideas. Anyone else having this issue?
